Is the Forum Search laggy / borken for everyone?

#1 Post by Remix »

Recently, the last few days, I have been finding that targeted searches here either:
Take ages
or
End up at just a timeout blank page

Is it the same for all?

Note:
Search 'rat' -> success 30 results
Search 'renpy' -> yup, 17268 results
Search something more specific like 'renpy button delay' -> fail timeout

I'm reindexing the forum's text, to see if that can improve things.

Search has been lagging and timing out on me too. So Remix is not alone.

Excellent :) Kind of glad it is not just me who gets the lagginess.

I had some occasional issues recently and error messages that said there was too much server traffic. I thought this was strange as just prior to that there had only been one other person logged in.

I also got a 504 gateway time-out error

Came to this section to ask this same question. Consider this a plus one.

Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. The server has high load. Please try again later.

Yeah, I'm continously getting a 504 Gateway Timeout. Not entirely sure why, never was a problem before. Any updates to the server-rig / software?

There was maintenance done recently, during which I couldn't get on the forums at all due to a 502 error (Bad Gateway).

I'm hoping that things get sorted out, and soon.

I had some problems with the Search bar for a day (it happened a few days ago). I got a message saying it had too many people using it at the same time (I can't remember the exact message, but it was along those lines). It's working okay for me now, but sometimes I'll search for a specific thread I know exists, but it won't show up in the search results.

Okay, I've figured out the problem, and the forum search should now be much faster. Please let me know if this is not the case for anyone.

Another error today:

"Information

That was about 2 minutes ago.

That usually means the computer is either being hammered by bots, or is just slow. I need to spend some of my copious free time (tm) replacing our server with a new faster one, with SSDs in it.

Yeah, hopefully someday it can be solved, though it sounds like it could be an expensive fix.
