About spoiler tagging...

#1 Post by Megaman Z » Mon Mar 28, 2005 9:37 am

right now, I see spoiler tagging as just marking text with the white font color. as you can see, it might still be possible to read it without highlighting it.

if you have seen some of my more recent posts, I have adopted a new method for spoiler tagging...
Spoiler Tester wrote:have to highlight this to read it, don't you!
see if you can read what's in the box before highlighting it!

(I know I can't change the ways of some... three hundred people- wait... one, two, three, four... [one hour later] two-hundred-seventy-two people, but at least I tried)

(darkknight, feel free to maim me in this thread.)

I'd try but I might go blind....

Yeah that's usually what I do (the quote tag and white text trick)

There is an add-on script for this forum's software though that adds in a Spoiler tag which pretty much does the same thing except all you'd need to do is surround the text with
the meaning of life
But either way works.

If you can give me a pointer to the add-on, I'll see if I can get it installed.

one of these days, I'm gonna be having some forums up... and I would really like to be able to have the spoiler tagging...

(and it's not on the official site... I checked)

Well, I usually use the white font method with the smallest font available. Anyway, spoiler tags would be a very nice addition.

I got it from here:
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/3338

Haven't had chance to try and install iton a forum I'm making though yet. Did install a country flags mod/hack though... didn't realise how much editing of files it would take heh. But I think the spoiler tag is a simpler one.
You just follow the instructions and edit the forum files to manipulate/add stuff. They advise you to do a backup first (I didn't though, I'm so lazy... hah)

I will attempt to get this up and going when I get home. (Doesn't look too hard.)

This forum is backed up, offsite, on a nightly basis, with a seven-day rotation of backup files being kept. (That's the forum data. I only keep a single backup of the forum software, as I can always reinstall if necessary.)

ok since i have permission....I dont think many people wont read spoilers if they dont want to...the small text and white on light gray background works just fine. Doing the extra work to hide a spoiler is somewhat pointless because it is human nature to want to read what is hidden.

So in closing the only way to hide a spoiler is to not write it down...and beside who are you hiding the spoiler from...you can just pm people with hints or secrets.

Looks like spoilers work!
I've just added in the spoiler tag, not the spoil tag. To use it, just write [ spoiler ] (without the spaces), and to end it, write [ /spoiler ] (again, without the spaces).

PyTom's so fast =) Well done.

Another forum I use has a spoiler tag too and requires that it be used according to the rules, very useful ^^

darkknight, you really make me wonder whether or not to even think of starting a couple of "forum games".
