Putting Images in Posts

#1 Post by abby »

Hello All!

For some reason I am unable to post images in my WIP thread. No matter what website I try using I get the error, "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct." The links I currently have work, however they are not being displayed in the post. Does anyone have any ways to fix this or websites to try?

Thanks so much!

I use an image editing program to reduce the size of the image to 640 by 480 pixels and save it as a jpg. I've had success linking from my deviantart page to here.
Other people may have a better solution.
Some of my visual novels are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. They are NSFW
Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

Thanks! I'll try saving them as jpgs. It's strange because sometimes it shows up and it depends on the device I'm using.

Are you using a direct link (http://myhost.random_string.format), or a generated link (http://myhost.random_string) or hotlinks (http://myhost.content_location.format.random_string)

jpg is a good choice for saving bandwidth / faster page loads if you have many images.
png is good for showing the content's original quality (provided correct screencapture methods were used) or images with transparency.
webp is optimised for internet use and should be the format people use nowadays.

The images can be up to 800 pixels wide, and sometimes the link can be of a kind that doesn't work for it. I use postimage.org, where you can crop the image to certain sizes. If you use [im g]the direct link[/img] like this you can turn your files into images. If you use an image from the internet, usually 'copy picture adress (9th option)' works, assuming the image isn't too big. If you're using dropbox, their links have something at the end that needs to be changed: from dl=1 to raw=1 or something like that.

The images are below 800 pixels wide. I was using a direct link from post image and that’s what isn’t showing up anymore. I tried to reupload the images and it still is not working.

I noticed that my signiature link images weren't working either when I made this post, ironically. I recopied them, seems like a single letter was added or removed. Not sure what that's about, but just re-copy paste your image links and it should be fine.

When I try that is when I get the error. I’m not sure what’s going on.

Why not simply attach the images to your post?

I use google photos for hosting images and then click generate link and the convert the link to a direct link with this website: https://ctrlq.org/google/photos/.
Not super convenient, but it works.

Info for others:

Often a picture hosting site will provide a URL like
https://somesite.com/your_pic_id.html
which shows your pic and yet isn't your pic (because it is a web page and not just an image). When the forum opens that it has trouble deciding which part of the link is your image so gives up.

If you can; visit the page, right click the image, select [view image] and copy the URL of that page/tab, then use that in the forum for posting an image.

Basically: Link to the image and Not a page that just shows the image.
