Your first version of Ren'Py!

I thought it'd be fun to talk about where we all began. Do you remember which version of Ren'Py you started using when you entered the visual novel dev community?

Mine was, and I kid you not I wouldn't let go of it for a few years, Ren'Py 6.12.1.
https://www.renpy.org/release/6.12.1

I loaded it up again after a long time, and here is what the interface looked like! And that project title happens to be my very first attempt at NaNoRenO back in 2012. Ah, fun times! xD

First time I finally upgraded was Ren'Py 6.15 lol.

I always use the latest release of RenPy because I want to see all the new code I can use (albeit me being such a newbie to it that I tend to mess things up...)

But my first RenPy version was something in 2012. I checked the release list on the website and it's likely that it's RenPy 6.14 "Steampunk Hamster (I also remember wondering what the naming convention was for each of the releases). It's pretty cool that they still post the DL links for all previous versions.

I don't particularly remember the year but I remember being frantic when the 16:9 resolution started taking popularity especially since I've been used to using 4:3 aspect ratio for games (which gives it a charming, retro VN feel lol)

Ah 4:3.... I still make a few of my games that way, especially if the background assets happen to be 4:3, otherwise I will use 16:9 which even back then I used. It is neat how Ren'Py keeps the old versions up, plus I like how in the newer versions you still have the choice of the Legacy theme which is great for old codes that do things you need that can't run on the new one.

I started with Ren'Py 6.10.2e, and I still keep it installed. Some old projects of mine didn't work well in the latest versions. I like to keep my personal nostalgic museum.

Wow! You've been with Ren'Py for quite sometime. Yes, I love having a personal nostalgia library too. ^^

I think I started with 6.17.3 (that's the earliest zip I have). :O

My first version of Ren'Py was 5.5.something I think, back in 2006. Of course, I didn't actually do much with it, I made two basic VNs for my kids based on old CYOA books from my childhood.

The first version I ever actually put any effort into learning and doing something substantial was... um.. what version are we on now? Because that's the one :)

I entered the world of Ren'Py with 6.8.1, as I created my final art project for college with it (titled "Final Week"). Prior to that my VNs were created with Flash (which I must admit was a bit of a pain to create with).

That was like... 10 years ago, has it really been that long?
