This forum already has a ranking system based on the number of posts (see what's written under your name), and I believe that's all we need.
Through the years we had many many many people who greatly contributed to the community only for the pleasure of sharing their knowledge, experience, inventiveness, and time.
IIRC, if any member believes he deserves having anything else than "veteran" written under his name ("Crawling Something", "King of that", "Arbiter of this", etc.) he can ask an administrator to take care of that.

While a nice gesture, I must attribute most of my knowledge to those who came before me (Philat, Remix, and trooper6 being a few names that stick out from the top of my head, but there are many others)
There were many who I may not have treated as well as I should have when I first joined.
