I forgot who showed me the link to this... maybe it was PyTom - not sure. Anyway:

I think it gets straight to the heart of the GTA San Andreas "Hot Coffee" controversy
Sadly, Americans have such a hangup about sex (Oh no I said "s-e-x" AGHHHHHH! ) It's really sad. I think we have some serious sexual issues collectively.

Even though I'm not offended by Hot Coffee (except by how sucky it looks), I have to wonder why Rockstar left the code for it in the finished game. It probably wasn't an integral part of the main code and they must have known there are people who rummage through game data for hidden secrets like this.
EDIT: Yay! I'm a regular now!

I just think this whole argument is just idiotic.
1. the game is rated M 17+ younger child should not be playing it in the first place.
2. it was a mod for the game. that unlocked it is not known that you could get it without mods and junk
3. Ao is one year difference from M it barely makes a difference
and the Rockstar company might have not known about it until someone found it. a single programmer in the company could have put it in.
(Taavimon, congratulations)

For the record, I think the gap between a M and a AO rating is musch larger then the ages would imply, similar to R and NC-17.
And I think the issue is more one of control, more than anything. People are (IMO, justifiably) upset that a game that they thought was one thing was another thing.
I have little problem with people going out and getting porn on their own, but at the same time, it's not something I give out as birthday presents.
Except the fact that:Chuck wrote: 3. Ao is one year difference from M it barely makes a difference
1. Stores can carry M rated games in the main area of the store, whereas Ao rated games(unless the store is specifically an adult store that only adults can purchase products in) have to be stored in a back room.
2. M rated games can be purchased for people under 17 if it's purchased by a parent/legal guardian or with that parent/legal guardian's permission.
And, this is off topic, but does anyone know why the drinking age in America is 21? I mean, you can go off and die for your country at 18, but you can't celebrate with a pint at the pub... Does that make any sense at all?

But the game they thought was one thing was EXACTLY what it was supposed to be on the box.
Unless you mean the parents who didn't bother reading the box description and wouldn't listen to the store staff when they tried to explain why it had an M rating and insisted that "It's a game, it MUST be for kids!" until a news story pointed out what their kid was actually playing.
The stupid Hot Coffee thing, along with being (imo) harmless, WAS NOT IN THE GAME.
The code was left on disc, yes. The content was not in the game.
Heck, there was a BIBLE game once built on the DOOM engine... it wasn't a violent game at all, but all the blood and guts skins were sitting in the source code somewhere because it was originally a doom engine before they replaced it with Collecting Fluffy Bunnies For Jesus. Should it have been rated "Oh no! Super violent game!" because there was some content left in the depths of the source code by lazy programmers that could not possibly have been accessed by playing the game? (Yes, lazy programmers, borrowing the first 3d engine they could find to write their silly game on.)
And now, to be helpful, they've released a patch... for you to remove the patch THAT YOU HAD TO PURPOSEFULLY INSTALL IN THE FIRST PLACE. How incredibly useful.
Buying a game that turns out to be something other than what it promised would be upsetting. That's just not the case here. I'm not offended by Hot Coffee - I *am* offended by some of the reactions to it.

The schools/higher powers wants to stay away from people buying drinks when they are still in high school. Generally students would buy drinks for a party they were hosting and invite friends maybe 16-20ish because the age gap for friends is about 4years.Iaman wrote: And, this is off topic, but does anyone know why the drinking age in America is 21? This brings to mind the decline of the roman civilization which appears to have been directly related to it's extensive use of lead in it's water transportation system, which brought about a slow dumbing down of the general populous. I wonder if there is not a similar as yet unrecognized mechanism of slow poisoning at work today from the products we consume.

From what I heard (oh boy, this almost sounds like a rumor mill now), 21 is the drinking age because physically those below that age are still developing and are not fully capable of handling liqour (i.e. they're more susceptable to getting drunk and stunting their growth).Iaman wrote:And, this is off topic, but does anyone know why the drinking age in America is 21? Probably. But don't forget the things we are around. British citizens also received a similar fate during the time when top hats were lined with lead thus the Mad Hatter character in Alice in Wonderland.ozurr wrote:I wonder if there is not a similar as yet unrecognized mechanism of slow poisoning at work today from the products we consume.

You're absolutelly right eclipse... that is the truth. Alcool Acelerates the rythm wich brain cells die, wich in turn can affect growth and phisical atributes when you are at a growing age.eclipse wrote:From what I heard (oh boy, this almost sounds like a rumor mill now), 21 is the drinking age because physically those below that age are still developing and are not fully capable of handling liqour (i.e. they're more susceptable to getting drunk and stunting their growth).Iaman wrote:And, this is off topic, but does anyone know why the drinking age in America is 21? In my country for example, the age you can start to drink is 18, although there are some youngsters (boy I'm just 18 and I'm talking like a gueezer XD) wich start to drink at the age of 13-15. Noot a very good option in my opinion.
