I'm gonna have to agree with this guy. Don't fool yourself.fortaat wrote:If you don't live in Japan and can't even write proper Japanese, you shouldn't write about Japan.
Since no one ever listens to the former advice, at least avoid having a Japanese title. The rest of your game doesn't have any Japanese in it, so why should the title be any different?
Help with your Japanese game titles.

If the game has no Japanese stuff in it, then I agree.
But "you don't even know X, so you shouldn't write it" is not useful for any writer. It's called research. This post is for those who want to take the time to hear from someone who understands the language.
Besides, how many people write smut when they've never had it? Research!

If you never been in sexual contact land, and are only familiar with it from media, that you shouldn't write about it.kinougames wrote:If the game has no Japanese stuff in it, then I agree.

You can research the subject, but since you're an amateur writer, chances are this will prove to be to great a challenge, and lead to a crappy VN.

"If you've never been dead, don't write about dead people."
"If you've never been sick, don't write about sick people."
"If you've never been a cop, don't write about cops."
"If you've never been a woman, don't write about women."
I could go on.

The people to whom I directed my advice.
I think we are both repeating our arguments from pages 1-2, so allow me to use a cute diversion, as I elegant ditch this thread.

I tell you, that Tolkien guy's depiction of Middle-Earth was terrible. How can a guy who's never been there expect to write about it?kinougames wrote:"If you've never murdered someone, don't write about murders."fortaat wrote: If you never been in sexual contact land, and are only familiar with it from media, that you shouldn't write about it.

It's easy. First he found the Red Book of Westmarch. Then he translated it.LordShiranai wrote:I tell you, that Tolkien guy's depiction of Middle-Earth was terrible. How can a guy who's never been there expect to write about it?
