Between gameplay and story, if you want me to play once and enjoy it, then I think for me, I like around 50, 50 between the two. (No repetitive gameplay though...) But if you actually want to me go replay a story (ex. to get different endings) I would want the gameplay to be a lot less... as in probably 80% for story and 20% for gameplay (or even less gameplay) because redoing whatever I did the first time playing it just bores me to death :/ But then again, that's just me... I kind of doubt I'm in the majority category for this one. For fillers, I think it's fine if it doesn't ruin the mood or flow of the story. I especially like fillers when they focus on my favorite character(s) (which btw is usually the side charas ;_;)

In anime, filler isn't created by the original creator (in anime case, the original creator is usually the manga author). That's why anime filler, most of the time, is bad, not canon (or even screwing the canon), or/and simply irritating and waste of time.

In video game, since the filler is made by the creators themselves, there are hardly bad filler. I guess it's the same with OVA (or original anime that doesn't originate from manga or other medium). Though most of anime like that only span for 13 episodes, eliminating the need of filler in the first place.

For a game 10 hours long, are you thinking about an even split? 5 hours of gaming, 5 hours of story? Are you story-heavy? 7 hours of story, maybe, 3 hours of gaming? Or are you most interested in the gameplay...7 hours of gameplay, 3 hours of story? Does it depend from game to game?

My other question is about "filler". There are always places for filler in any game, going to the store, having random people talking...really, any reason at all. Would you be more pleased if that filler was fleshed out to be more story-like? Or should filler stay where it belongs, short and sweet? :)
Ideally to make everything beautiful? Try the golden ratio 1.6 hours of story per 8.4 hour of gaming  . On the more serious note, the I like older Final Fantasy series story/gaming ratio the most. That's like what 4 hour story per 6 hour level grinding? But as a VN newbie making game play is not a choice for me.

If the fillers contributes to the story then it's good, if not then short and sweet with a bit of humor to it.
