... and how many of us weary fools attempt to do all four?

A lot, I'm sure

I changed "hire" to "use" which is, perhaps, more accurate. Does anyone want to
use me for free for a sprite set?
monele wrote:Me too :/... So what are we lacking the most here ? Artists ? Writers ? Developers ? *ponders*
I'm an artist and writer, with an emphasis on the former. I have no composing or programming skills whatsoever; I am strictly a "copy and paste" programmer.
What's a developer?

Sorry, my french suddenly taking over. I did mean programer or coder.

Oh, okay.
Oddly enough, I still haven't had anyone e-mail me or PM me for sprites. I thought at least someone would say to themselves, "Oh! I can have sprites a lot more quickly now, without having to draw them myself!" ...
I have been having the weirdest urge to make a Sonic the Hedgehog Ren'Ai game again ... ha! Oh, well ...

I would definately "order" sprites (since they look really cool) but since art is one of the rare parts I think I can do myself, I'd rather try to work on it.
The only way I can imagine of using these on an existing project would be to have chibi sprites of existing characters. Question is : where to display them ^^; ?

If not for the time and motivation constraints mentioned earlier in this thread, I would probably desire your help greatly...I can draw pictures, but either I give up halfway through when a particular part gives me trouble, or else I botch it completely on the inking phase...or I just leave it in a very loose sketch format to preserve the very easily taintable balance and "feel" of the drawing...so in short I cannot ever finish my drawings...You, on the other hand, can not only finish but also color and shade your illustrations...*dies of envy and hopes to be revived in time for summer vacation when only the motivation constraint on finishing a script will remain and the possibility of needing artwork will surface*

I would *totally* take you up on the offer, except for my regrettable lack of discipline.
I'm doing my best to not announce, reference (okay, this is harder), or request art for any project until it's otherwise done... I would just feel really bad about roping someone into using their talents for something I ended up losing interest in and not finishing.
That said, I've just finished the bulk of the programming for a framework for an (loosely) RPG-Ren'Ai.

It's not at 'share' point yet, but meh, maybe in a few days?

I happen to like shoving the text bar to either the top of the screen or over to the right a bit, and using the lower left corner.

Okay, well, if anyone has a project near completion, please don't hesitate to ask ... I may end up doing artwork for multiple projects in different styles (3d, by hand, CGed, etc,) but that's just assuming anyone actually requests. u_u;;
Good luck, absinthe.

As portraits eh? Sounds good. Well I'll post something later today which hasn't any character graphics so far. Maybe you'll feel inspired ? ^^;

Maybe.

I like text demos ... (if only because they remind me of those old text-games.)
You know, when I originally started, I
really want to do something like Trinity as a CYOA, but there was no way that I could capture its essence properly so I gave up and tried on other projects instead.
If you want to be cute, you could have the chibi icons standing, sitting, peeking over, and laying down on the text bar itself, by positioning them carefully by x and y coordinates. Actually, that would be pretty darn cute. ^_^

It's not all text : there are bgs and characters placeholders (except for faces). Actually it really just lacks character graphics ^^.
I guess I'm more into the CYOA style myself (grew up with these) but I'm also too much into visuals to make a text-only game
Hmm, cute chibis squeeing around... I guess I could such a thing on the main map (it should be a mix between a romance-VN and some sort of 4X game)

Ah, that's right. I just read the topic title again, and realized I was offering
sprites - but, I suppose the same could go for backgrounds as well.
What's a 4X game?
The main map - what kind is it? It is like a game map, or more like a RPG "tile set" map?
I've always wanted to do a novel with a map in that sketchy style you find of maps in those old Fantasy-type novels

. Like Sword of Shannara, Wheel of Time, etc. Not badly-drawn but not hyper-detailed ... just charming in its simplicity.

Well now backgrounds is something I will be looking for whatever happens since all I can do is filter pictures

.
4X game : eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate. Or any other variation of this.
In my case I'd only keep eXplore and a mix of eXpand/eXploit. Basically you get a map divided into sectors which you could explore, discovering new places to go to. Then you can keep exploring or go to those places. In each place, events take place (that's the VN part). I'll get more into details in a future post since I'm not *sure* of what I want yet ^^;
To answer your question, it would be more like a tileset map since it'd take place in space (no parchament look). But I don't plan to use a tileset to make it. I'll draw it and then define clickable zones on it.

I see. Will this novel include robots? (I like robots .... and androids ... and cyborgs .... anything vaguely robotic and humanoid)
So spacesuit-chibis and chibi spaceships probably won't be out of the question ...
