Millennium Dream: Child of a Thousand Generations

#1 Post by ririruetoo » Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:17 am

“It’s been four years; four years, and yet nothing has seemed to change. Expect for me, I’m the only thing that’s changed.”

Chiyoko Matsusuke has not been to her home town of ( haven’t thought of it yet), Japan in over four years due to her studying abroad in America. She returns at the start of summer, eager to reunite with family and friends. Yet all is not what it seems, a string of bizarre murders have been reported in the area recently and the town is restless with questions. Chiyoko doesn’t think too much of the reports until a murder hits too close to home. Do these murders have anything to do with her home coming? And what about the strange dreams she has been having lately? Dreams of a long dead priestess and a promise made over a thousand years ago.

Characters ( so far)-

Chiyoko Matusuke-
Age- 22
After studying abroad for four years, returns home to a string of bizarre murders. Does it have anything to do with her odd dreams and a nearby shrine?

Rei Matusuke-
Age- 26
Chiyoko’s older brother. Works part-time at a local bar. Has an outgoing and friendly personality, cares deeply for his younger sister.

Hitoshi Ichimonji-
Age- 26
Rei’s childhood friend, works as a detective at the local police station. A rather mature and hard working person; grew up alongside Chiyoko and cares for like a sister.

Masami Arato-
Age- 68
A care-giver at the local shrine; lived in the area all her life and is wary of the string of recent murders. Is very wise and knows the entire town’s history by heart.

NOTE- I deciced to post this 'cause it's been stuck in my head for a while. I WILL NOT start work on it until I am completed with Him & Me ( even then I may not even get around to it, all I have now is the primese.)

There's already a game with exact same title, The Dreaming, in this forum. The author is Taleweaver.

This.

I'd modify it slightly.. if you wanted, you could even just add a subtitle.

I'm cool with the title. After all, there's already a P&P roleplaying game, musical albums by both Grace Kelly and Kate Bush, an English-language manga and a 2001 musical of the same name; why not another VN? (Also, my current project Adrift shares the name of a semi-popular sea-fighting game and of an engine for interactive fiction.)

Taleweaver's coolness aside, I think it'll be confusing for casual OELVN fans. And besides that, you'll be living in the shadow of a great game that people will no doubt make comparisons to. I'm not saying you wouldn't stack up, but I'm just saying that's what's gonna happen. I wouldn't want that kind of pressure. ^-^;;

Your premise sounds interesting. :) Bizarre murders are always good. Good luck on this project (and your previous one!)

That's difficult to answer because I don't know why you wanted to name the game "The Dreaming" in the first place. But if this is of any importance...
Dreams of a long dead priestess and a promise made over a thousand years ago.
...what about "Millennium Dreams"? A catchy and epic title, isn't it?

Hey, that's cool. I also thought "Dream of Millenia" or "The Haunting Dream"

Thanks for the suggestions! At least it finally has a name now.....Now to come up with a home town. I originally was going with Tokyo, but it's so over used. It's like making a visual novel ( or book, or movie, or anime) and setting it New York, theres so much more to America than New York, and yet its the iconic city so it's used for everything. Tokyo is like that.

There's more of New York than just the city. Also most of the city is mostly in Manhattan, with the United Nations and the more iconic tourist sites there. If you're talking about New York City that is, there's also New York State as a whole, upstate there's farms(I think, I've never been upstate). I don't see how New York is used often other than for the big grand city.

Anyway, since I was getting out of topic, for you visual novel, finally some characters that aren't in their teen years. It's looking good with a interesting plot. Good luck with your visual novel!
