VN, Romance, Slice of Life

Legend has it that The Magpie Bridge appears once every August to reunite star-crossed lovers. For Lola, legend becomes fact when a gap year vacation in Yunnan, China finds her touring the province alongside an unusual companion: an 1000-year-old, jilted ghost.
Throw in a drifting teahouse, a moody tractor, and a mystery pen pal, and what began as a retreat for self-actualization quickly goes awry. But life is a funny thing, and Lola learns that sometimes, the sweetest part of finding yourself is getting lost.

Zhu
Zhu is the unruly daughter of a prominent general. She prefers mud between her toes to jade around her wrists, and is widely known in the palace by her nickname "The Wayward Princess". Over the years, Zhu has racked up an impressive record of offences, her worst being the time she lent the crown prince porn. Suitor numbers have dropped significantly since, much to Zhu's delight.
When the Emperor sends her father south to build rapport, Zhu is instantly packed and prepared for Dali. Dali, unfortunately, is not prepared for Zhu. Confident and capricious, Zhu takes the capital by storm, and Dali's Finishing School for Noble Maidens will never be the same.

Yong
Yong is hands down the most popular man in Dali when it comes to older women. The elderly, to be exact. The deadly combination of his boy-next-door charms and dimples has local grandmas doting on him nonstop. As a result, he’s become unanimously shunned by grandpas in the community. Zhu knows him quite intimately through gripes from her own grandfather at their dinner table.
Yong's hut is sits on the outskirts of town, a mile east of Dali's Finishing School for Noble Maidens.

Lola
The protagonist. At 18, Lola is a whimsical girl seesawing between the roles of the adult and the child. Like the rest of Tonight's cast, Lola finds herself at a standstill in life. Ever since graduation, Lola has been plagued by a growing anxiety about her future. She can't help but feel incompetent in comparison to her classmates who've enrolled in post-secondary or joined the workforce, while she hangs in limbo with no direction or purpose. After months of deliberating, Lola finally decides to place her savings and her bet on a getaway. She sets off for Yunnan hoping the change of scenery will put things into perspective.
With her natural inclinations for buffoonery and optimism, it isn't long before Lola gets tangled up in a string of misadventures.
?
Little is known about Lola’s confidant who goes by the pseudonym “Mapo Tofu”.

Yao Ning
Yao is a mute waiter working night shifts at the moving teahouse, The Ginkgo. Although he carries a pad and pen in his back pocket, Yao seldom communicates through writing save to take down orders. Instead, he relies on gestures to get his point across. The paper stays with him at all times, just in case, because Yao has the tendency to ramble incoherently around people he likes. This is mostly seen in conversations with his younger sister, who invariably gives up at the 5 minute mark, kisses Yao on the forehead, and walks away. His family calls him “The Loud Silence”.

To CheeryMoya, proofreader extraordinaire-Cripes, where do I start? CheeryMoya is hecka nice. She volunteered to proofread Tonight's script and gave (gives, really; she teaches me new things all the time) great advice on just about everything I struggle with, going as far as coding scenes for me to use as reference! Goddamn. ❤
