western style vn druid story

#1 Post by NastyHabit » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:48 pm

I am hard at work on a visual novel, with plenty of game play, done in a western style. A story of druids and wizards, priests, kings and bards. Does anyone have an interest in such things? I like the idea of visual novels but find most to short on puzzles and branches. Do post if this would interest you.

You can write whatever sort of story or game you want. Obviously, not everyone will like it... so you will benefit by asking yourself, "Is this what I want to write and create?"

It's pretty common to see puzzles in graphic adventure games, as well as text adventure / interactive fiction. If you find it difficult to create challenging but fair puzzles with Ren'py, then you might want to try a relevant adventure game creation tool.

Finally, be sure to ask other people for advice with branching stories. They might be able to help you map out where events can go, and how the game can progress.

Go for it. Dare to be different, I'd like to see what you produce. Somebody will play your game (decent artwork is a plus).
All of my VNs are at http://wolflore.net NOTE: Downloads are now working.

Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

When first read topic title: "Western Style Druid Story"

Oh wow...kewl! A cowboy pagan story. High time for proper Jonah Hex style supernatural cowboys done right. (Not like the one in movies)

...not another Swords and Spells game!!!

It's not that common. Well, not as common as dating sims set in Japanese high-schools, featuring a socially awkward protagonist and a group of dangerously young looking shy and yet somehow easy girls.

Have to admit, that does sound kinda cool.

The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

If you'd like to view or use any code from my VN PM me. All code is freely available without restriction, but also without warranty or (much) support.

Thanks for the feedback. No it is not full of spells and stuff. so far I have crystall balls, and a ouija board that forcasts futures, a few characters and so on, but know it will mostly be much like a standard VN. Story driven , and branch choice driven, with a few puzzles, one puzzle so far is a message to the player written in ogum druid writing, that you have to decode, not to hard, but there are back buttons so if your stuck, there are always 2 other paths 2 go down which are easier or free to proceed. I really like Visual Novels......but.... I am a Canadian white guy , a little older than most otaka folks. So I have an interest in other types of stories with a vn format.

Yay Canadians!

I think this would be an interesting story. It would be nice to see druids and bards get more love.
