Project Nattsu

Lux Visual Novels will present: Project Nattsu (or プロジェクトなっつ), it's very first visual novel.

Project Nattsu, or just Nattsu, is a visual novel that's done with Ren'Py. As our and mine first project, it will be quite short and simple, but Lux will be trying to make it at least okay. The protagonist is a young man, Shoichiro Yoshizumi, whose grandfather has a job as a summer remedial instruction teacher. However, his gramps' has to have a surgery, so Shoichiro will be a substitute teacher for a while... And then he discovers that he's going to teach three girls, not very far from his own age!

The game will have a simple plot and will be stat-based with each girl having both study and love points. Not only the stats will depend on the choices, but some of the reactions to the choices will depend on the stats! (If I can make it work, ehe~.) There won't be very many endings, maybe four or a couple more. Only two of the three girls will have a "romantic ending", though nothing's final yet, so this might change.

I'll be doing the programming, character art and cg in general and everything concerning the writing and planning of the plot. I have also a grammar checker since my grammar is quite poor at times (as you probably have already noticed... :oops:) who also shall be commenting the game in all of it's states and so helping me to develop the game. About backgrounds and music/sound effects, we don't have anyone at the moment, but I'm searching for people who could do them. The game won't be voiced.

Progress:
Programming - ??% ~ Currently experiencing some problems with customizing the look of the menus and such, also unsure about some things in the future (mostly about how to get the stat things work).
Writing - 15-35% (since I'm not yet too sure of how long Nattsu will be in the end) ~ Writing day two, almost complete with it, I think.
Character art - 5% ~ Characters designed, base sketches somewhat done, maybe...
CG - 0% ~ Still planning it and thinking which scenes will have CG. This part won't be started too soon, probably.
Music - 0% - Searching for an artist who could provide the music...
Backgrounds - 0% - Searching for an artist who could provide the backgrounds...
I hope I didn't forget to mention something. ^^;

I'll be posting previews and more information as the project processes if people show interest in Nattsu. ;)

About what you asked, I'd be wiling to do the background photos. Details in the PM.

If you want to hear a sample of some music I did.....
http://reccaphoenix.tripod.com/after_the_party_copy.wav
Very simple....done for my 1st game when I couldn't find music with the feel I wanted.

http://reccaphoenix.tripod.com/shroom_party.m4a
Used a big loop in Garageband, not all that original ^^;;;
I added the dance beats.
I also made this when I couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Ack! A .WAV file is big for such a teeny sample. You should consider compressing your files in the future.

However, I will forgive the transgression for your very interesting use of the diminished IV :P

Hmm, as were your photos, your music is very nice too! Would you be willing to do the music too... Pretty please?

That depends on how much you want -_-;;;
And as I said, it's very very simple and cliched....

Anyway, let me know the types of scenes/events you want music for, and if you want something longer or just a short (~1 min.) piece you can loop.

I don't need anything very complicated or over-special. ^^ Plus I liked your first sample (but couldn't download the second one, because my browser didn't like the link or something ^^;) very much. I actually think simple music would fit the game better than something too complicated, because Nattsu is... A bit simple in some other aspects, too.

I can't directly say the scenes yet because I'm still writing the script, so I think it would be best if I sent you kind of a "demo" of the game when I've finished the writing, mentioning which scenes need their own music in my opnion. Then it would also be easier for you to make the music that fits the scenes when you've played them, wouldn't it? :) But this is just a suggestion, and if playing the demo and everything sounds like too much trouble, you can refuse, of course.

That sounds like the best way to go about things. That way I won't make music for a scene you decide to drop later or anything like that

Ah, perfect! ^^ I'll be sending you a demo version as soon as I finish the text (and maybe some demo art too, who knows).

Sorry for the double post, I'm reporting on the proccess and showing some design art. :)

Progress:
Programming - ??% ~ I haven't yet customized the looks of the game, but otherwise it's quite complete, I think.
Writing - about 65% ~ Writing day three, I think there will be four days plus "a glance at the future"-thing in the game.
Character art - 8% ~ Characters and their clothes have been sketched in Photoshop, the next step will be making the lineart.
CG - 5% ~ A few have been sketched.
Music - 0% - The music task for Recca Phoenix will begin when the writing is finished.
Backgrounds - 10% - I've found some photos for the backgrounds and Recca Phoenix will take the rest :)

I've also decided that there will most likely be six endings. One neutral and in a way bad one, then one for each of the girls, a bad ending and the true ending. I made one of my relatives test Nattsu, and it took over 30 minutes for her to finish it. I was writing day the beginning of the day three back then. So Nattsu might be a little longer than I expected, though it is possible that she just read it slowly, since English is no her first language. This far Nattsu has got nine choice menuss, and there will be at least one more on the way. Yay for interactivity!

And then, a design picture of the girls. From left to right, they're named Anna, Fuu and Mimi. Notice that my scanner made the colours look weird. For example, they're not that pale really and Fuu's skin is not going to be pink... ^^; And their expressions are quite random, so don't let them bother you.
Then, a question for you everyone... What colour shall Mimi's ribbons be? I thought they could be white, but now when I think about it, it might look a little plain. Is there some other colour that would suit her better, or is white okay? Or should she have ribbons that change their colour every day? :lol:

Hand-painted? That's refreshing!

As for ribbons, we don't know what dresses she'll be wearing, although changing colors sounds interesting. Don't think too much about it.

Hehee, yes, I like doing the design on paper... But don't get me wrong, the final art will be digital! :D It would be too much work to do it traditionally, plus it would be frustrating to let the whole character art suffer because of my scanner.

I actually haven't yet thought about the colour of her whole dress, partically shirt, but I think her skirt will be navy blue. Though I haven't coloured the character art yet, so it isn't sealed or anything. ^^; I thought that her shirt could be white, but I thought the same thing with Anna's shirt, and I don't think both of them having white shirts is a good idea... So I'll have to decide that. Maybe neither of them will have white shirt, who knows?

Okay, here are the two classroom photos, they are the same scene but one has more vivid colors in it.
I didn't do anything in the way of filtering, but if you want me to I can.

Once you reach high school, we only have this kind of big blackboards in France ^^;... And even bigger ones at University amphitheatres.

At least one of the lecture theatres where I went to university had a blackboard about twice as tall as a man and roughly as wide as the theatre, divided into three sections horizontally and mounted on pulleys so they could be raised and lowered to allow the lecturer to reach...

...of course, they didn't take the opportunity to use all that space and write bigger so people at the back could actually read it... ;-)
