NightLight [Otome/Drama/Fantasy/GxB]

Image
(To be updated… it doesn’t really fit the mood of the game, anymore)

Genre(s): Romance, Drama, Fantasy

Summary:
Yi SonAh (can be renamed) has a secret. Nobody can see her best friend. But, since childhood, SonAh has counted on JunHo being by her side. Her parents wrote him off as their young daughter’s imaginary friend, at first. They even thought she stopped pretending, like most children do. Unfortunately for SonAh, her father just caught her talking to “herself,” in her room. Now, just weeks before she should be graduating senior high, she’s being sent off for live-in therapy with renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Park.

At Dr. Park’s estate, SonAh will learn the truth about her “hallucinations” and the story behind Jin, Dr. Park’s only other, mysterious, patient. She might even uncover something about Dr. Park, himself.

Info:
Writer(s): YiMiRa
Artist(s): YiMiRa & free-to-use BGs, probably… unless I get some lovely artist volunteers? *looks hopeful*
Music: YiMiRa (hopefully to be taken over by somebody with talent, maybe? >.<)

Progress:
Script: 5%
Programming: 0%
Sprites/BGs: 0%
CGs: 0%
Music: 0%

Features:
-Choose the protagonist’s name and personality
-Different ways to obtain each guy, based on SonAh’s personality
-Lots of routes with unique dialogue and ending possibilities
-Free!

Characters:
Protagonist- Yi SonAh (default name)
“If I believe in myself, and my friends, I can’t be held back.”
The only child of a wealthy family, her parents are devastated when they realize their daughter suffers from vivid hallucinations. She is self-assured and earnest, intelligent and distinctly self-reflective. Her outward expression of herself, though, is crafted by the player. She may be quiet and gentle, stubborn and forthright, or aloof and sarcastic… you decide.
Pursuable- Im JunHo
“I heard your voice, that night, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head, since… it’s kind of annoying.”
Personable, but not particularly long-suffering. His loyalty toward the protagonist is evident, though his motivations are unclear. He tends to follow an “ends-justify-the-means” philosophy, which can really rub SonAh the wrong way. Prideful, but not arrogant, he’ll never admit getting flustered. JunHo is SonAh’s “imaginary friend.”

Pursuable- Jin

“I wish I could make sense of myself. I’m trying so hard, but I think you might leave before I’ve succeeded.”

World-weary and sensitive. He exercises evident restraint, understanding his own tendency toward neediness and tempering it as best he can. He is convinced that he will be burdensome for anyone close to him, deeply aware of his inadequacies. He is quite brilliant and of strong character, in other facets of his life, so his perceived failure in an area so tied to his mental stability is extremely frustrating to him.

Pursuable- Park JaeYun

“Did I see you too late? An eternity of experience and you still caught me off guard…”

Reserved, hard-working, and a little distant. He is kind-hearted, but so out-of-touch, at times, that he seems blundering. Though he rarely second-guesses himself, he’s quick to apologize when he realizes he’s done something unnecessary. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if he even realizes he’s being affectionate…

Current Notes:
So… this is going to be my first shot at making an otome game… or any game, for that matter. I’m a pretty experienced writer, though! I’d love to get help on this… particularly in the art/music department, so, PM me if you’re interested. Later on, proofreaders and beta testers would be awesome, too! Thanks for reading my wall of text… I hope you find the concept to your liking! I’ll probably be posting on the recruitment board soon… Anyway, I guess... I just thought I'd put it here in the ideas to kind of... keep myself accountable on working on it, or whatever.

I think the concept that characters with foreign names should be from that country applies here... It's usually about Japanese names but in this it would be Korean names. So my question is that is this game set in Korea?

Its a pretty interesting concept though. Although I think you still have a lot to work out and develop to finish the story and game
::Currently looking for work! <3::
Doing sprites, cg's, and chibis. PM me if interested!

It is set in Korea, yes. The associated folklore will be "original" to the game, though, with a little bit of Shinto influence, possibly. Most of the Shinto shrines/temples in Korea were destroyed, post-occupation, so I think that a story revolving around the connection between modern society and that break with Shinto influence will be fun to explore.

I absolutely, do. Of course, there's a lot more to the story than what's been presented, here. I just wanted to keep the synopsis/character descriptions simple... as much as I love exhausting people with walls of text.

Thanks for the comment!

Your premise looks really interesting! I really like how SonAh's personality influences what she does on each route. How do you plan on letting the player determine her personality?

The concept sketches are very cute. Although I can't claim to have much art or musical talent, I'd definitely be interested in being a proofreader when you finish the script!

Thank you!
How do you plan on letting the player determine her personality?
So, the idea is that the player will get to choose how she reacts to different situations... for a simple example, let's say JunHo teases SonAh for... I don't know, getting food on her shirt. The player might receive options to respond, like: "Wipe the food off quickly and try not to seem embarrassed," "Mock a modeling pose and claim it's a new style," or "'accidentally' get ketchup on JunHo, in retaliation." This is a silly example, but, I want the player to be able to choose whichever answer they like the best without worrying about whether it will impact their ability to acquire JunHo's "good" ending.

In other words, these questions will be interaction driving, but not plot driving. While the first option might lead JunHo to feel a little bad for making fun of you and try to (cutely) make ammends, the last option might gear your relationship toward more playful banter. Either situation can still turn romantic, or platonic, depending on the plot driving options the player will encounter, at other points.

...That was probably an over lengthy answer. My apologies.
Although I can't claim to have much art or musical talent, I'd definitely be interested in being a proofreader when you finish the script!
That'd be wonderful!
