In the making: METROPOLITAN BLUES

For your convenience, and entertainment, a few lines from the prologue of an upcoming Visual Novel, script by Taleweaver: Metropolitan Blues:

I don't know how long I've been here.

It's difficult to track time if you have no needs or desires... never sleeping, never eating. Even day and night become a blur in a city like this one.

I see in shades of gray, though I know there is something like color.
I have no feelings whatsoever, though I know there are things like feelings.
I have no memories of my past, though I know there are things like memories.
I know so many things, and yet I have no idea why I know them... or what purpose they are for.

In the back of my mind, there are so many words I will never have any use for. Words like "body". "Heart". "Life". I see that these things exist, and I know their names, but they do not matter to me, and they never will matter to me.

And strangely... even though I know they will never matter to me...the thought still makes me sad.

Metropolitan Blues will be a visual novel with eight unique endings, many different paths, decisions that really make a difference and a unique story that can end in love, freedom, understanding... or despair. Approximate playing time will be 1/2 - 3/4 h per session. The script is 2/3 finished, I've begun to put together the art, and if someone wanted to contribute artwork for the female main character, I could still put it into the game, I think. Actually, I'm not coding this monster myself, it's just my script (I'm a storyteller at heart), but I'm sure the coder will be happy to have a real artist on the project too.

Oh, did I forget to mention that the game code is written by Blue Lemma? ^_ ^ That's the secret project we've been working at. Don't ask when it comes out - ToL2 is first, and after that, we'll see how much time BL has. I hope to be finishing the script by the end of September, then all that remains is the rest of the artwork and the code.

Aha, I thought that this might be related to your project when I saw the thread :D

Anyway good luck both of you. The main character sounds cool and heartless. This being the case how can there be a despair ending? I'm happy to wait and see though.

heh, I'd offer to help with the art, but well, there are much more qualified (and conventional) artists than me around here.

Sounds really interesting and intriguing. Can't wait to see. Will you be having music too?
If you have any artwork you can let us have a peek at that would be cool =)

Good luck with your project!

So the secret is finally out of the bag, huh? :D

Interesting snippet you have there. I wouldn't class him as cool and heartless - more like an unemotional male automaton. Someone distanced and emotionally unattached. He's had no real human experience before though he is aware of them... kind of like Brad Pitt when he played Death in that movie several years ago. Forgot the name of the movie - never saw it either but I've heard about it.

Anywhoo - how many pictures/emotional states/outfits of the female character do you need? If it's not too much, I may be able to help you... But don't get your hopes up. Got some other stuff going on... =)

The artwork's not much to talk about, so far - just photoshopped backgrounds, and I'll probably use edited photos of a retired J-idol from the 80s for the main character. However, it'd be great to have an artist just for her as it pains me to be able to use only such a limited amount of facial expressions.

As for music: none yet, but I'll try to stick with free MIDIs. We'll see.

@eclipse: You are thinking about "Meet Joe Black", but that's not exactly him. Wait and see; maybe more will be revealed about him... and her. I will contact you via PM for more details on the girl.

Ahh! Meet Joe Black, that's it! I was thinking Joe Black but I knew something was missing. Hmm, not quite but a fairly good guess, no?
In-teresting...

I'm considering the workload right now but it seems I can do it. Got a few questions though... Will PM back.

Well to use the photo of the Japanese person you would need the permission of that person really, if you want to distribute it and have everything legit. It's like if you used an image of an anime character, only more because people have more rights and copyright complications than a fictional character. Although I suppose you've thought of that already.

Yeah I think the main character sounds like someone who is 'cold' but not because he wants to be... Makes me think of a robot who develops a stronger AI than expected and starts to question things.

Yeah, a robot would be my second guess! ...Or maybe even an alien. ^^

Maybe...He is a prototype of the T-800 and is sent into the past to test the capabilities of time travel! Then, once his mission is completed and all the data understood, they can proceed with the Terminator series!

"Are you John Conner?"

This is GREAT, finally the secret's out. I'm looking forward to it, really. Good luck with the production! The plot should be very good (well, it's a Taleweaver story, so... :) and I hope you and Lemma can manage the release some time soon.

The pictures I have been using are all marked "public domain", so I don't think there should be any problems. Besides, eclipse has already shown interest in drawing a main character, so I might not need these photos after all.

@Theories: all quite nice. We'll see which turns out the correct one.

About music: I very much like the piano pieces of T.J. Moir. http://www.angelfire.com/mo/muchalls/music.html is his homepage. I'll try to contact him for permission to use his music for the game.

Oh wow! This is fantastic - I'm listening to his music right now and they sound wonderful. Good job on finding him. Sooo, which piano music will be in the game exactly? :D
