summary
near-future political sci-fi manifesto (of lies)
label intro:
scene black with dissolve
"0. ORANGE, APPLE, MONKEY."
d "Have you ever thought about an orange while you ate it?"
d "At the microstructural level, is it any less complex than us? Cells, DNA, chromosomes, etc.?"
x "It doesn't have any feelings!"
d "Ever peel away the skin and fascial layers in a human cadaver?"
x "Why? Is it like peeling apart an orange?"
d "Reminds me, in some way. Yes."
d "What about a chicken as you rip apart the meat from its bone? Severing its sinews and tendons?"
d "Or have you thought about the components that make up a hamburger or hot dog?"
d "Have you imagined the actual flesh and tissue and what it would look like under a microscope
with much of the higher level macro and mesostructure destroyed and only the cellular structure
still extant?"
x "Are you trying to convince me to be a vegetarian?"
d "I think it is important for us to be very self-aware of the importance of all life--the
importance of every life we take or change or alter."
d "It is especially important for someone in my position."
d "I do not take any of this lightly."
x "No, you don't have to do this! Please, let me go! I'm begging you! I won't say anything!"
x "I promise! DON'T DO THIS TO ME! DON'T DO THIS!!!"
d "Relax. This is perfectly humane. There are no pain receptors in the brain."
d "You won't feel a thing."

updates
12/20/13:
10/9/13: urgh. still writing. progress is hard to estimate because the story is still fluid and my outlines keep changing on me. but i think it's finally starting to take on its final shape. maybe.
8/6/13: ok. had to reorganize the scenes. an early scene was too powerful and dominated everything after it.
would be fine for a short story, but not for this. pushed the scene back. seems better now. this beast keeps
wanting to get bigger. urgh. it's been a bit of a slog. a lot of ideas to juggle. but disparate/competing elements
slowly falling into their proper order. i hope. a ton of writing left to do on this one. gah.
8/2/13: urgh. still trying to wrap my head around all of the parts of this story and its different endings.
i try to work quickly, but i think this might take me a month. or two. dunno.
7/31/13: ok, time to get serious.
7/18/13: just this for now.
