Original art for Jitteh Dawn (Spoilers inside) *OPEN*

When I made Jitteh Dawn, I used mostly free art. While that certainly sped up development time (I can't draw), it also detracted from the VN's uniqueness - somewhere, somehow, all of that character art was used at least once.

Will any of you be willing to do character art for the game? If I like what I see, I may rerelease it with this new art. Feel free to give spoilers here.

Some descriptions for the main characters:

HOGI:
He has short black hair and a rather thin build. No glasses.

SAYAKA:
Taller than Hogi, but not towering. Her hair is long and black, but it is in a ponytail.

TATSU:
Short hair (as usual), favors green clothes. Has distinctive red pupils that run in the family.

MS. YADO:
A thirtyish, mature look, with a long mane of brown hair and facial features similar to Tatsu's but far prettier.

Had some time to sketch up some ideas today. Sorry, but i'll have a sketch of Sayaka up soon. I don't want to go all-out and make the sprites without them being used, so I thought it would be a good idea to show the pencilling.

Nice work sketching. I can see the detail of the characters.

Were I to ink it, I would probably fix some of the small errors visibly in the symmetry and weight of the bodies and faces... they're small, nitpicky but it's the difference between good and great, probably ... (Hogi's wrist is bent at an odd angle to be in his pocket because his forearm is slightly too long; similarly, Tatsu's elbow should be even with the waist. If elongating fingers and arms and limbs, one must remember—as CLAMP does— to similarly thin out the other proportions as well. See: http://www.animetric.com/wxyz/xp.jpg)

Sorry for being such an art nerd, just ignore me ... I've been drawing anime for so long that I forget that a fine eye for "how things should look" is learned by practice, just like every other skill.

Other than the first sketch or so, I pretty much shunned proportions in favor of practicing the expressions. (Very noticable on the third Hogi from left to right on the topmost part of the paper, and the second Ms. Yado.) Yeah, the arms are wrong. I didn't sketch a skeletal stucture before sketching the characters; I wanted to see what Ivlivs' opinion was on the style, so I didn't want to waste effort if he / she doesn't like it. At this rate, it doesn't seem like he'll reply to my offer...

Whoa...someone actually responded...

Please, many pardons. I am so sorry for not responding sooner.

These sketches are pretty good. I do like what I see. I hadn't realized that anyone was even bothering with this (I didn't get any PMs or anything that someone was working on it) so I had withdrawn my request. But with what I see here, I would like to do an "upgraded" version with original character art and maybe a few extra scenes. If you do want to do such art, make sure you PM me or post here, okay?

I profusely apologize for any trouble I may have caused. :(

With this, this topic is once again active!

Progress:

Speed should now increase! sorry for the slow start. Still have about five pieces to finish for art class though..

Note: I did full-body sets instead since it allows for a bigger palette of expressions.

You just made my day, Doomfest. Please, by all means, keep up the good work.

Pretty good so far. Can't wait to see the rest (though perhaps the rightmost Hogi should look a little more unnerved.) And make sure the pants are the same color as the school uniform (just a friendly reminder.)

pants-got it. it's customary for gakuran to have same color pants as shirts, right? I haven't seen otherwise... oh yeah, I forgot to make him paler and with lighter pupils... Silly me. Although that expression really isn't my strong point. Have to research more on that.

Yes, it is indeed customary for gakuran to have the same color pants as shirts.
