Shinpuru Academy

#1 Post by cynicalcrious » Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:32 am

Name: Shinpuru Academy
genres: romance, adventure, school life, action, mystery.
possible romances: (GxG) (GxB) (BxB) (BxG)
Rating: R.P
The Idea:
The idea or main idea the game circles around is being different each time you play it. This is meant to give it a lot of repeatability and to drive the player to continue playing in order to find and meet new characters, discover new places and see how the same scenario could play out differently.

Game play: The game will play like mainly like a graphic novel with a procedurally generated and ever changing plot line. I would say it's an RPG but if anything that would be a secondary genre. There are stats that greatly impact game play though the game is not centered around stat building due some of the possible outcomes from failing the stat check being almost as interesting as the ones for passing it. The player can build stats but that is not the main goal of the player, the main goal it to decide what they want from their life. Do they want to focus on socializing with people? Do they want to sleep with every possible charter or maybe just live a simple life? Do they want to discover the dark history of the school or maybe even just focus on passing finals and moving onto collage? The choices they choose decides what story will unfold before them.

The art style will follow your typical anime while the music will be more atmospheric and reflective of what is happening or the currant state of things while keeping a certain amount of simplicity. Sound and special effects are going be used as needed to get certain points across, spice up the game and to signify certain key moments.

Story:
You are (inset name here) and have just been granted a chance to study abroad at Shinpuru Academy for your last three years of high school. After much though you have decided to attend due to A) Wanting to experience Japan. B) Aspiring to achieve high grades to get into a good collage. C) Your parents made you go. D) You didn't want to stay at home. At the school you are left to almost your own devices and here you are to shape your own destiny. What will you take with you from these years? There are man secrets about the school, it's rich history and background about how it came to be and what it once was. Will you look into this despite the excessive warnings and occasional threat or will you push onward, following the trail of broken fishing line (metaphor prone to change) to see what you can learn in your two years there.
Features:
-Random events that can have a large impact on gameplay-
-Over 200 characters, not all of which will be met in the first play through-
-Over Fifty possible love interests-
-Almost every play through is different in some way no matter how many times you beat the game. You can meet characters you didn't know exist, a girl isn't interested in you that play through or traumatic event that you didn't expect occurred to you or another character that didn't happen before.-
-Optional Hentai scenes-
-Unlockables-
-(somewhat) customizable character as far as name, gender, sexuality (optional) and modifiers that can change what choices are available to you and starting stats.-
-Many, Many possible endings-
-Your own Dorm (hub)!-
-Actions with one character can effect another. Will you go for a harem or reverse harem ending or will you be caught between a heart and a hard place?-
-A rich history that surrounds the school that you get only mere glimpses of, more and more being revealed with each play through. Can you put the pieces together?-
(Feature list is not yet complete and will be added to in the future)

--Stats--
Broken into three categories. Intellectual, Physical and Social.
Intellectual
Academics - The player's ability to do well in class
Knowledge - How much information the player knows outside of academic studies.
Wisdom - the player's ability to draw insight from past experiences
Physical
Dexterity - how flexible and quickly the player can move
Endurance - how long the player can exert force
Strength - how strong the player is
Social
Empathy - The player's ability to pick up character's feelings and emotions.
Appearance - How the player appears or is viewed in general.
Rhetoric - The player's ability to come up with speeches and lectures on the spot.
Etiquette- The player's knowledge of how to act in certain social situations.
Each stat is randomly generated after the player chooses specific modifiers that affect either the range it's calculated in or added\subtracted from the stat based on the trait.
Calculations and various labels for static methods of increasing the stats are still being worked on. Taking multiple stats into consideration is already partially implanted. Currently applying iron to chase out the bugs.
--Characters--
Alexander (Obtainable)- Alexander Sparling strives for academic success. He is one of the few other foreigners though he comes from Britain. He is datable for female characters and occasionally male characters. He can become the VP of the student council. He is highly intelligent and tends to look down on people who aren't to bright. He prefers intelligent characters, he generally doesn't like athleticism. His closest friend is Yumi who is far smarter and doesn't view him as anything more then just an acquaintance.
"I don't have much time so stop wasting it."

Matsuka Tsunemi (Obtainable)- Matsuka isn't the most intelligent character but is quite caring despite her seemingly endless insults directed towards everyone but Haruhi, a childhood friend. She is a proud member of the track team and a second year. She has a bad habit of believing many of the stereotypes that exist about foreigners.
"Hmm, I expected someone... bigger."

Haruhi Okita (obtainable)- Shy, timid and usually keeping to herself Haruhi isn't that good with people. She crumbles in conflict and is easily offended. She works in the school's administration office in order to make enough money to pay for intuitions. She has a habit of apologizing excessively believing that much of the things that go wrong around her is somehow her fault. She is interested in girls though if left to her own devices can end up with Matsuka. She prefers characters with a kinder, gentler touch.
"Please... stop yelling."

Yumi Nagasawa (obtainable) - Yumi comes from a wealthier family with a strong disposition towards foreigners though she hides her opinions most of the time. She will befriend, lie, cheat and steal in order to achieve the goal that she has set before herself. She has no interest in what a person can do but what did they do and can end up trying to manipulate the player for her own gain. She is overly confident and egotistical.
"That it was impressive, for a foreigner."

Juriko Hirota (obtainable)- He his a charming character who, despite his way with women, has a preference for men. He works at the café across the street from the school where he often brings out the orders to the players, occasionally chatting with them and giving them certain indirect insight, telling stories or giving a "tip for a tip". He acts carefree most of the time and seems to take everything light heartedly though he actually has a bright side and occasionally mentions having to wear a mask at work or school. If caught alone and off-guard then the player can sometimes see glimpses of the troubles that lay beneath. After accumulating enough relation points and is "kind" occasionally talk about his problems though can be scolded for doing so.
"Whoops, sorry. My mask almost fell off."

this sounds a little ambitious

I noticed you didn't list an artist position. Are you doing that, or?

Well, eroges with 40 heroines or so exist, but they're usually like one H scene per heroine and no plot.

EDIT: Ah, okay, 'Artist' has been added as an open position.

I guess to me the key roles that make up a VN team are scenario writer, artist, composer, programmer (sometimes). If you outsource all the key roles to other people while pitching a VN of really unprecedented size and scope people might get the impression that you're just looking to find other people to make your game for you. Naturally I wouldn't think that myself, but you can't deny it looks kind of bad!

Due to the nature of the game it's going to sound ambitious. Ambitious for one person, yes. Though if I manage to get together a group people then it should be far easier to make but will still take a lot lf time and effort. I can sprite though they would be of poor quality which wouldn't really work for a game like this.

200 is the estimated number to have such a high level of reliability with noticeable and large changes from each play through of the game. If you want an example of some if the complexity or randomization then I will be posting a bit of sample code later today or tomorrow (based on your location).
Well, eroges with 40 heroines or so exist, but they're usually like one H scene per heroine and no plot.
Except with fifty or so males and females each with general and unique H scenes that get shuffled through and some rarer then others and multiple scenes can occur during one play through (hence the optional H scenes). The game is also has a plot but I don't know if you could say there is a definite story line due to so many random variables.

If anyone is interested in getting onboard with this project then don't be afraid to contact me, I don't bite or at least... you know... not that hard.

Wow, is this your first game? I mean it IS big, even if many people work on it. Maybe you should put on more info about the characters, settings, and stuff, you know just so people'll know what they're going to work with. (Have you started a thread in the recruitment section?)
Well you took the programmer part, which is a pain since you're going to make a large game with many varieties, changes and events but like Asceai said, don't give others the impression that they're doing all the work for you. (Idk, give them instructions or at least the idea of what you want them to write/draw and the style...etc)
What type of game will it be though? Like dating, stat-raising, rpg, or just plain visual novel?
Anw, good luck and hope you'll find a great team to make this possible! :)

Wow, what a big project you have here.
First, it seems to be interesting, like, SO interesting but... 200 characters? You may want to get more than 2 or 3 artist to work together on the sprites, if not I can't see that huge amount to be done... Even so, maybe there's someone insane enough (I would actually admire whoever can do it from the deepest in my soul) to do it all alone for you. For now you should search the people you need at the Recruiment section.
The hardest part is probably gonna be finding someone to do the art, but anyway, I wish you the best of lucks with your project!
