Untitled Monster Girl Novel (Monster Girl x Monster Girl)

#1 Post by gloomydoll » Sun Apr 20, 2014 10:56 pm

Concept:

In a world where monstrous humanoids have long ago overtaken humans as the dominant species, a modern society, much like our own, has arisen. In one particular city dwells a lizard-like girl by the name of Amelia, who has spent the last decade dwelling in a small apartment, rarely leaving, and barely making ends meet by digging up and selling the many artifacts of the old human empire that met its end over a millennium before the beginning of our story.

Though happy with her day-to-day life of gaming, eating, and scrap collecting, one day, after a chance call from Amelia's mother reveals that her younger brother had just gotten a high profile job, Ameila begins to reexamine her life choices and decides that it is high time to make something of herself. Upon finally deciding to step out into the real world, Amelia tries her hand at a variety of things, including writing a comic book, working as a construction worker, and even trying to find a date for a lonely Friday night. With each new experience, she meets many other girls like herself, who all have a story and reasons of their own for which they are not truly happy with the way their lives have turned out -- and in the context of their stories, Amelia attempts to find her own path.

------

Themes

The story I am trying to tell is one of people who are generally unhappy with the current state of their life, and this visual novel expresses that fact with its characters who all, in one way or another, have had their life take an unexpected and unwanted course. This unhappiness is one that stems from the modern message that people can become whatever they wish should they set their mind to it. More often then not, however, this is simply not true -- without a whole lot of luck and connections, many are left behind with nothing to show for their time but dashed hopes and broken dreams. This state of being is central to the story I want to tell, and is centered around one person, in this case our lizard-girl, Amelia, attempting to figure out what to do once life has failed to live up to the expectation she had held when she was young.

----

Characters.

Amelia
Age: 29
Species: Lizard Girl

Our protagonist, and a slacker trying to figure out what to do with her life. When not working, Amelia spends most of her time playing games and in general avoiding contact with other people. Her best friend is Gwen, a spider girl who works at a local game shop.

Gwen
Age: 25
Species: Tarantula Girl

A spider-type girl who works at a local game store. She became friends with Amelia after a particularly intense conversation regarding just what game in a particular series was the best, a conversation that only ended when the store's manager broke up the heated debate for the sake of the long line that had formed as the two girls had gone back and forth for nearly twenty minutes.

Gwen had graduated at the head of her class in college, but afterwords had failed to find any work in her particular field, leaving the poor spider-girl depressed and directionless for quite sometime before she finally settled upon her current job. She admires Amelia's ability to remain so happy in the face of her fairly boring life, while Amelia believes that Gwen is the coolest person ever simply because she works with video games all day (it is worth nothing that Amelia is rather easily impressed).

---

The plan is to make this a simple kinetic novel with no branching paths, thus allowing our story telling to be straight forward and to the point. We currently have a writer, me, and a composer, but are in need of an artist versed in drawing monster girls. If your interested feel free to drop me a message or post here!

Oooooooh I like this idea a lot. Are small animals and insects the only ones who evolved into humanoid creatures?

I agree with Simon, I really like this Idea. I don't suppose there are any cute cat/wolf girls running around?? (Forgive a fangirl, I couldn't help it :) ) I'm looking forward to see where you go with this idea, So far it sounds like it could be really good.

Thank you! But to answer your question, the plan for now involves having the rest of the cast consist of a beetle girl, a flying squirrel girl, and a bat girl. More may be added as development moves forward though.

Another thank you for you as well! But right now, we're focusing on using monster girl types that aren't usually seen in media of this sort. So it is unlikely we will have a cat or wolf girl, but that could change so keep tuned as things develop!

You are welcome! It's fun to see all of the different stories and settings people can come up with, and this really does look like a pretty cool idea. I will for sure keep tuned, plus I was mostly kidding around :) Best of luck on the project :) I look forward to seeing more updates

Nice. :D Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions (but if it helps with the development thats a relief) but I'm curious; how humanoid are the characters? At least in terms of art? Would they look monsterly, with fur, scales, tails, etc., or in a anime-ish moe-way?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm honestly intrigued about this concept. :3

And the fact that the game is GxG.

Though I don't usually play GxG games, the idea seems really interesting! I like the stories in which there's character development like in this one and the concept is unusual.
I second Simon in the question of how humanoid the characters are... I'd like to take part in the project as an artist (if you'd let me, of course), but I'm not sure I could manage to draw a very monsterly look. A couple of samples of my art here
Anyway, I'll be looking forward to know more about this game~

We're aiming for more of a monster girl encylopedia cutesy art style at the moment, so mostly humanoid girls with monster-like features, such as horns, tails, scales, and odd skin colors.

Hello! I'm happy to see your interested in the project, the basis for our selecting an artist at the moment is the ability to draw monster girls. So it would be hard to make a decision without seeing a monster girl drawn in your style.

I threw this concept design for Amelia together last night after reading the description of your game. Though I don't really consider myself an artist, I was wondering if was anywhere close to the aesthetic you had in mind.

We're actually aiming for a bit more monstrous then that. We've actually had the luck of having another member here, KuronekoRM, who has drawn some lovely line art of Amelia that I've attached to this post.
