So far, the ultimate goal of the storyline is to merge the humor and charm of animes like Love Hina and Negima with the drama of Kanon and Clannad with the action of Gundam.
It might not be *exactly* that but you might want to take a look at the Vandread series ^^

Haha. ^_^ Maybbe a more serious version of Vandread with more moe. :3 And I realize how stupid that last sentence sounded... A serious moe? What in hell's name am I talking about here? ._. Ack, ack, but I must restrain myself from watching too many mecha animes or else I'll get really depressed about my inability to neither draw nor 3d model mechas... Gah, I would LOVE to have mechas instead of starships in my VN... But they're too hard to make... >_<;

Vandread was made quite a while ago when the entire lolita moe anime wasn't as developed as it is now, I think. :3 I was expecting something more along the lines of the Sky Girls OVA actually... Sky Girls meshes moe with mecha action pretty well. :3
That's a really interesting project *^^* I love your characters~ They're so adorable and I like the hairstyles a lot :D
If I can help in any way, make sure to let me know~ :3
Thankies. ^_^ Once I get further down the development path, I'll keep you in mind if I need help with anything. :3

There a roguelike called 'Transcendence' that might be what you're looking for. It's a galaxy-spanning adventure about the player, who wants to reach the centre of the universe.

I feel your pain... I really wanted mechas for Utsukushii Planet, too... and I ended up with not even a *single* ship o_o...

As for Vandread not being moe... I'll say it's a good thing. Eh, I think I'm getting tired of the moe everywhere :|.

I looked it up and it looks pretty sweet. :3 If I ever have the time and money, I'd love to make something an anime space adventure of that scale... Like Mass Effect but with all anime characters. Imagine how totally awsome that would be! *Fuka orgie starry space out*

Haha. I think moe is good, but having only moe is problematic. You need to alternate between having really sad scenes and really cute scenes because a change in tone has alot more impact that the tone itself. If something's incredibally cutsy and fluffy the entire way through, eventually you get desensitized to it. But if a character's incredibally happy and cute one moment, but another moment something incredibelly bad happens to her, then you're absolutely torn to pieces. And this is generally the way most animes are structured. Usually, they spend episodes 1-6 introducing all the characters, 7-14 on the first major story arc, 15-20 on random super cute moe fillers that have nothing to do with anything, and in 21-25 all of hell breaks lose and everything bad happens to the main character and it it seems that a happy ending is impossible, but in episode 26 everything happens to work out again, mostly due to a deus ex machina, but you don't really care about that because you're so worried about the characters that you're willing to forgive cliches in the script for everything to work out again. :3 I think Mai HIME, Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi, and the first season of Ah! My Goddess are pretty much the ideal examples of this structure... And the absolute most economical use of this structure is in Kanon 06... In a 26 episode anime, they managed to repeat this structure over and over again for almost all of the main characters and it never seemed repetitive... It's all about alternating between the moe and the drama. :3 If all else fails, you've got to make everyone love the characters so much that they're willing to burn down the rules of literature itself to save them. :3

Great, I spent too much time on this... Ack, ack, ack, I have a Chinese oral final tommarow... Must go study study study. o_o;

Re: Story Editor Needed! Raidaa no Asahi

#21 Post by Samu-kun » Sun Dec 09, 2007 2:39 am

Hello! Small update! First off, there have been some major content cuts. Everything is linear now. We're aiming for a total of 14 episodes, each roughly 2200 words in length. That's a total length of about 30 000 words, which is still a very length adventure, considering this is going to be completely free game.

So far, I have written about 13 000 words of the storyline. Before I go any further, I would like to have somebody proofread/edit/modify/critique what I have of the story so far. You don't need any prior experience as an editor, but it's always a plus if you do. However, you must

-be dedicated
-be a good writer
-be imaginative
-be an anime fan

Just so you know, Raidaa no Asahi is a science fiction action romantic comedy with interactive SHMUP segments. There's plenty of thrilling space action, interpersonal drama, ecchi comedy, and political intrigue! If this kind of thing interests you, please apply either in this topic or leave me a PM. Thanks! ^_^

Oh, and another thing... The entire thing's a script like in an anime. Since the entire VN is going to be structured like an anime with "episodes" for chapters, "advertisement breaks" halfway in between these episodes, and OPs and EDs before and after each episode, suffice to say, everything's done in dialouge as you would expect in an anime. I hope I was clear enough in my stage directions for you to understand what's going on, but if you're confused about anything, tell me. :3

I can help with this... :) I've been an editor/proofreader and writer for various media (both interactive and non-interactive) for more than 7 years now. And, of course, my specialty genre in anime/manga (more manga than anime) is romantic comedies, so I should know the conventions pretty well. Just send me the script and I'll go through it. (BTW, what level of nitpicking would you prefer? Are you interested in critiques of macrostructures like plot, character development and pacing/flow, or micro-details like spelling, wording and punctuation?)

zomg!

First draft of the storyline has been COMPLETE!

Total words: 31,679 words
Number of Episodes: 14
Linear storyline
Features
-Kaito: The loser. AKA player character
-Asaga: the silly, loud, and fun loving girl
-Ikkari: the tsundere girl
-Chigara: the shy, bashful lolicon character
-Rai: playful bishonen character
-Kryst: the easily frusterated villian
-Helio: mysterious quiet guy
-Cosette: girl with a short fuse
-Claud: the shota character
-3D backgrounds
-SHMUP interludes
-Ecchi CGs

Needless to say, this has become quite a big project and I'm always looking for people to help. I'll post a much more detailed request later, but for now, I'm interested if there will be a
a) musician and a singer willing to create the OP/ED song (in English is fine, but if it were in Japanese, it would be AMAZING)
b) an artist willing to draw CGs

I'm afraid I can't post any more details than that at the moment, because the project has inadvertantly become embarressingly HUGE and I need to make some pretty big content cuts before I even have the nerve to announce just how many facial expressions/3D models/CG shots there are in the script. Gomenasi! >_<;;; *glooms in a corner*

Which reminds me to do something I've owed someone for a WHILE.

Female would be preferred for the OP. :3 I'm going to be more leniant on the ED though. Female is fine, but a male voice would be acceptable for it as well. ^_^;

Hmm... This is kind of unfamiliar territory for me. I have some experience with working with Adobe Premiere 2, so actually making the OP video shouldn't be much of a problem, but I've never actually asked somebody to make a song for me... o_o;

Oh well! Here we go! ^_^ I'll post some more details about the help requests once I've compiled the total number of CGs, 3D models, backgrounds, and character expressions there are in the script and I have a better idea of just what kind of help I'll need. Right now, I'm mainly concerned if there will be people willing to help for a relative first timer like me period. ^_^;;
Same question. A sample can be provided if you want~
I tried the voice samples in your sig and it looks like you have quite a bit of talent. ^_^ If you're willing to help, that'd be great! ^_^

Image Chiii... Hello everyone. I think this is the first time I've ever posted here. Samu-kun's too busy working on his project, so we decided to help him out by taking care of this topic. Umm... So I compiled a small list of the thing's we've managed to finish so far. We still have a very long way to go, so please bare with us.

THE PROGRESS
Storyline First Draft (~35 000 words): 100%
Storyline Second Draft: 60%
Character Facial Expressions: 50%
3D Ship models: 10%
CGs: 0%
Backgrounds: 0%
VN Programming: 0%
SHMUP Programming: 0%
OP and ED: 0%

Image Ah, don't be so shy, Chigara! We should introduce ourselves to everyone! I bet nobody's even seen us before!

Image Ah, you're right, Asaga. Hello everyone. I'm Chigara Akahadi. I'll be one of the three main characters in this visual novel.

Image And I'm Asaga Okashi!

Image Ikkari Ichinaya here.

Image Ah, this sure looks like an interesting place! Woah... There's even a hentai forum!

Image Chii... Hentai? What's that...?

Image W-what!? U-utterly unforgivable! I must lodge a complaint to the administrator of this message board! Who knows, maybe they might even try to molest Chigara!

Image Eh-heh... I think it'll be fine, leader...

Image Still, I don't trust this place...

Image Everyone seems nice here. I hope we can all get along together!
