Chindi (Name Pending)(KN, Siblings, Slice of Life, Horror?)

#1 Post by Sunlit-Dreamer » Sun Apr 05, 2015 4:05 pm

Honestly, I already have this written. However, I'm still unsure what categories it would properly go under since nothing bad or "scary" happens until past the halfway point. There will be hints of trauma and abuse, along with something else. I also have to work on the ending, it just doesn't feel satisfying to me.

It seems I tend to make older brothers the nice type, maybe I unknowingly based Henry from Bed Time off of Joshua. (Only Henry has less backbone.)
Summary
Paul and Joshua are a close pair of brothers, Joshua going out of his way to make sure Paul has a happy childhood. One night, Paul accidentally breaks a dream catcher their mother inherited from their grandmother which causes him to panic. Their mother is an obsessed fanatic when it comes to their heritage, and as expected, freaked out over the incident. Joshua tries to take the blame and over the next few weeks does several actions to keep his parents at bay. As the days progress, he's slowly reminded of his own childhood when he had to live with their grandmother.
As stated in the topic's subject, this is going to be a KN since it's already written at almost 13k. (Plus there really isn't any areas that are suitable for choices, since I plan on this having a "bad end'.) High chance I'll be soloing this as well to see if I can recreate the scenes in my head for moments that would be perfect for cgs. Will play around with customization as well.

I don't really expect anyone to be interested in this. This is more a slower, personal project that I can polish up a bit. Just because I finished a nano, doesn't mean I suddenly have the ability to work on a huge vn by myself.

I'll probably request for this to be moved to the wip thread when I'm maybe halfway done.

Thank you for reading/skimming.

Don't put yourself down! I'm interested in what kind of story this will be. Sometimes there are no clearly applicable genre labels, but that's okay! It sounds like you've got something compelling in the works. :)

Thank you, I'm just not used to getting much "attention", since most people go "meh" or "it's all right". I still have a long way to go in regards to improving my writing (and drawing).

I guess I can say a little more, seeing that my original post has barely any information. It involves chindis, which are part of the Navajo mythology. Chindis are spirits that have possessed former belongings or homes if their bodies have not been buried away from their home basically. Quite a few years ago, I was doing a lot of research on all sorts of mythological creatures around the world. I still have a list saved of the ones that interested me most.

When I started writing this story last year, I didn't plan on making the spirit a chindi until I randomly looked up my list and realized it suited the story perfectly.

People always try to come up with brand new interesting creatures when there's already thousands around them. I've found so many I never heard of before. If I do decide to keep going down the horror route, I hope to add in at least one that's rarely ever seen. I really like their backstories and purposes to why they were created.
