Introducing "Winter, winter"

#1 Post by luminarious » Sun May 04, 2008 1:05 pm

I've been rising early for a couple of weeks now, to work on my game-to-be "Winter, winter". It's a romantic, slice-of-life style harem. I aim for realism, as much as the setting allows me to. Somewhat like Crescendo then, except with a bit more humour and less melancholy.

I'm planning 3 girls, 5 major endings and several minor ones as well. Playing time will be at least 20 minutes.. :P

I draw my own art, characters as well as backgrounds. So it might take some time as I'm totally new to drawing backgrounds. I have some general drawing experience, so all hope is not lost:

Text shown here is from the preliminary draft and has already been replaced with a more meaningful one.. :D
I will probably need someone's help with editing, later on, as English is not my primary language.

My aim is to first prepare a playable demo, to convince myself that I can pull something like this off on my own. And then move on to the other 80% of the things. It's not exactly helpful that I've already got ideas for the next one on paper.. :P

Mmm... Like Crescendo but with more humor huh? Sounds good. I hope the girls are cute. *thumbs up*

Sounds promising. Realism, humour, and similarities to Crescendo are all good things to aim for. Good luck!

3 girls and 5 endings is probably achievable. It seems like a sensible place to set your aim. If things start looking too time-consuming, perhaps be ready to scale back to 2 girls; but there are several 3-girl games on the Ren'ai Archives, so go for it! :)
I released 3 VNs, many moons ago: Elven Relations (IntRenAiMo 2007), When I Rule The World (NaNoRenO 2005), and Cloud Fairy (the Cute Light & Fluffy Project, 2009).
More recently I designed the board game Steam Works (published in 2015), available from a local gaming store near you!

Nice background, do you make it by yourself?

Yes, I made that.. :) I'm trying to go for a look that has lots of light and mood. I'm using Flash for lines and Photoshop for the light and shadow.

I'm hoping to get some character sketches done this week as well.. ^^

I spent some time drawing today, but got frustrated and scrapped everything. I did manage to at least find a nice image for the main menu. Life's a about balance.. ;)

Also, it turned out that a friend of a friend is actually interested in making a soundtrack for me, so hopefully I'm getting some good music as well (his sample works were quality stuff..)

Yes, I know, still no actual in-game images or story hints, I'm sorry.. :P

Update: 25.06.08

#8 Post by luminarious » Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:38 pm

During writing, my goals have shifted from those I originally had, as is often the case. Rather than a harem game, my writing is resembling that of a postmodern romance at this point. There is one more character, bringing the count to 4 main characters. Yves, Alysse, June and Chris share the 2 main stories and hopefully it won't all end in tears and shame.

The updated interface looks a bit more professional now, while hopefully keeping the delicate balance of sweet romance and ear-biting winter cold. I would appreciate your comments on colour choices since my monitor is weirdly calibrated and colours may appear differently on others.. :|

Also, I've been introduced to a willing composer who specializes in ambience and dance music. Electronic loops ftw! I've listened to his tracks and I'm pretty sure we'll have little trouble understanding each other and the moods of the story.
