I think by background, susanoo means the picture behind the character sprites... Not a CG itself.
The rocks look too... smooth?

Re: VN project in need of personell~
oh i know what he means this is a multy layered picture and the background is a focus.I can take out the character of course.
Also the rock is smoother looking for a few reasons one is becouse its very very far away and over 7 stories tall so you couldnt see its details,next its water worn so yeah it is smooth. That and the details that are there are lost in this scaled version this is actualy about 1/3 of the original size XD.
Thanks for the words of wisdom though.

Hmmm... Since the samples you posted are character-centered (the pictures are really all about the character), I suggest doing another sample that focuses entirely on background to show how a BG of yours would and could really look like.

@NOUGHTS : yeahs! that's exactly what i meant.
@Pentence :
question one : what program did you use? (not that it's really matter though)
question two : don't you think applying some precise shading will help this picture a lot?
question three : will you consider taking training under me or shii (haven't asked her though)?
i'll state your problem :
- definitely need more touch on your perspective
- absolutely need more touch on your color picking
- before you start shading, decide where the light sources will come from
these 3 states your major weaknesses especially the color picking. other stuffs are a bit on the minor side and should be easily fixable with experiences.
no no i'm not trying to sound rude or anything. I'm not pro or anything but i'm trying to attain the best result i can get from you. and to tell you the truth, i really sucked with background. but nonetheless, I will more than gladly provide you with training and such. it'll be great if shii agree to this too. I'll ask her later.

Re: VN project in need of personell~
No its fine actualy i agree compared to my other pieces this is a bit flat.Also advice is always a welcome comodity in short supply.
Also i use gimp.
The shadeing is there but i chose a softer more painted feel(it was an atempt at mimicing a style) so i spose its not quite as aparent,i was trying to not apply hard shadeing since the style did not incorporate it(though yes it might actualy be very benifical).However yeah i definitly could have used a wider color range for emphasis in the dark and light areas.
Anyway no i dont have any issues with a little tutalege,infact its welcome.
