About Time for a Splash! (Updated 15 Nov.)

So now it's time to announce my very first VN (actually a KN) project here at LSF after a year of hanging around.

This short KN (only 3700+ words) is a parodical retelling of what actually happened during my vacation with my high school friends at a resort near Manila.

As a result, there will be around 11 characters (including yours truly, the narrator) and expect some send-up spoofs of anime, games, and other stuff.

Progress Report (as of Nov. 15)

Script: 100% (To clear up things, I must finish the script first before announcing the whole thing)
Programming: 40% (Encoded all of the script; all of the UI's coded and polished; splash screen added)
Graphics: 40% (Title and menu graphics were done, made image buttons for the UI, splash screen and other graphics were made; all required backgrounds gathered; character sprites and event CG's are, sadly, nil. Artist is currently working hard)
Music: 100% (All required royalty-free BGM's gathered)

Artist found and is currently working; so the job offering's closed. Deadline now extended to the end of the year. See latest post for more info.

Please read the second paragraph in the first post.

I can't say I can help with the actual development with the game (I'm a visionary with programming skills that are almost nil, and I don't have a tablet), but I have to say, I'm interested. Short comedies based on real life experiences are always fun if executed right. :) Also, I'm interested in what Manila is like now... Haven't been to the Philippines since I was nine. And Manila? Six.

Now here's the title screen that I've coded this morning.

I suggest the first image layer be that of a swimming pool, the logo be that of a splash (plus the title), and perhaps sticking with the buttons you already have.

But that's just me.

Dude. What version of Windows do you have?

Looks like XP (with the ugliness turned off) or 2003, to me... :3

That looks like 9x/Me/2k, doesn't it? However, as Jake mentioned, it could be 2003 or XP (which allows switching back to the "classic" visual style). I think even Vista can be tweaked enough to look like older versions; although I can't say for sure.
But, based on the icons, I'd bet it's XP (specially the IE icon with the golden ring, which reveals it is IE7; and IE7 is only available for XP and newer).

It can, but it still looks a little different to 2003 or XP with no theme manager, which look more or less identical. ;-)

Alright, before this gets derailed into OS talk, I am once again humbly calling for a character/CG artist. The backbone of the game is basically complete; I just need the eye candy to accompany it.

Reworded the artist requirements to accomodate multiple artists. Take note that if more than one artist will tackle this, consistency must be the number one priority.

Now, here's a preview of the actual game screen.

Man, I forgot to tell that I've gathered all the necessary backgrounds and BGM's.

I beg you not to use Comic Sans for your final version. It looks ghastly. There is an extensive archive of alternative comic-book type fonts here.

Fortunately, I have no plans of using that font. What I'm using are mainly Japanese fonts, so be happy now.
