Thousand doors project (GxB V/N)

#1 Post by Nimuell » Fri Jan 09, 2009 5:26 am

Uh.. Well, hello everyone! I'm Nimuell (or Nimu-chan, you may call me as you like ) and I've been wanting to do a GxB visual novel with the help of my best friend, who writes really wonderful stories. So I do all the programming and artwork.

General
+ Genre: Mystery, Surreal, Detective, Everyday routine.
+ Rating: PG-16, I think.
+ Characters: Protagonist (Nao), 4 boys datable (three in general and one secret-chara), 2 very important side characters, 5-7 side characters.
+Gameplay: pure (no simulation elements) GxB visual novel, with branching plot.

Story and protagonist

The protagonist of the story is Nao Watts.
Sarcastic, energetic adventurer, who moves into N. city.
She's a young beginning writer (failure in that). Loves strange dreams, spiders, ice-cream, she's totally in love with books and old town's bridges. Although she's very lively, she has a strange disease, which is considered being incurable. (Childhood traumas pack included )

Image

The N. city is really old town, with lots of bridges, channels, small streets and wonders. (Ghost stories, anyone?)
This is the city of mechanics, researchers and inventors, so the town is full of mechanical dolls, robots and all this steampunk atmosphere.
I can understand Nao in her wish to live there. <3

Image Image Image

A man without a face appears in her dreams to warn her, that she's in danger, and she should never open hidden doors.
At this time she has a great writer's block and can't think up a new story. So, to overcome this she wanders through the old town to see something new and inspiring.
She finds a big abandoned mansion not far from the town and being true adventurer ("hey, I've got the idea for my story!") begins exploring it. Since then she becomes just obsessed with that mansion, she opens the countless doors, that should never be opened and meets with the blind young lady (who's just crazy sociopath) of this house...
Nao will have to wander through the memories of the lady (Deyal) to close all the doors, to put everything together.

Excuses
Well I know, the scenario sounds really like corny story, but I promise, it IS interesting. It's just, that it's difficult to me to explain this story in English, since it's not my native language.
Yeah, the worst is, that the game will be in Russian. (now, I think, noone will be interested in it at all) But we just don't have good dojin VN in Russian, so I want "Thousand doors" to be the first one. T_T
However, some my friends in UK got interested in the idea and promised me to help with translations. It sounds really like daydreaming now, but I honestly want it to be translated, so that anyone can play.

I'll update this post soon with details of the story and characters descriptions. Also I have many sketches of the datable personages.

Characters

Datable personages:
Marko
Image Image
Marko is such damn sweet and kind guy.. True adventurer, traveler and storyteller. He has such a vivid imagination, that you can never tell if his story is true or false. He works as a postman in eastern district (where Nao lives), the pay is not so good, but enough for him to live as he wants. He lives at his aunts place with his little genius brother. His aunt runs her own business , so you can tell, he just doesn't need money for living. No goal for living either.
Sometimes he acts kind of strange. By the way, his personality is darker, than it seems from the first sight.
He also has this "I'm nothing special, really" complex and feels that he's a failure compared to his genius bro.

(the information about other personages will be added later)

Other sketches
Well, Nao's outfit is really cute, isn't it?

I'm becoming more and more interested in steampunk lately so this comes as a very good surprise ^^... The premise sounds awesome (I love that kind of adventure-mystery with a bit of paranormal/magic) and the art looks so sweet ^__^.
Do keep us updated :)... *and crosses fingers for a translation when it's done*

Nimu-chan: don't worry about writing in English yet. It may help you to write in your own language, then find a multi-lingual person who can translate.

Ooh, a rare GxB game! Your art is beautiful, and the story sounds interesting... If there were a translation when it's done, that would be awesome. Even if there doesn't end up being one, I might play it anyway just for the art! :D

Novinha, thanks for your kind words  , the progress is slow, but we want to create a really good VN as much as possible close to professional novels. I still haven't introduced many characters here, because of my lazyness  , however everytime I meet with my friend we start disussing all the personages like they are real persions.

I cannot promise anything now offcourse, because the game is really at an early stage of creating, but still I'll do everything possible to translate it. Because... I kind of know your pain(yeah-yeah, all these Atlas and AGTH things, Applocale and so on, and in the end you're lucky if you can get about 80% of the understanding what is going on in all these otome-games), you've come from Neo-romance forums, am I right? I often visit them, although I don't really take part in the conversations.

Yeah, I usually just lurk when I'm here... I post a bit more over there, but I decided to register here finally. :P Good to hear that you're interested in doing a translation! (I wonder if machine translation of Russian is any better than it is with Japanese? Hmm.) Probably best to focus on getting the game done first, though, and worry about translating it after that.

Well, I think a lot of us are going to be following the development of the game with interest - it seems like a really exciting project, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. :D

Looks wonderful~ The art is really nice, and the setting looks great. I hope this gets a translation, but I understand it's a lot of work.
