Haha, wow, really? I didn't think anybody would remember it. (Though, it seems that if I can't finish arc 1 this summer, it's going to be on another almost year long hiatus when school starts. >.>)

I feel like i need to post something to bump this back up to the front page. Here's a wip ofthe background (now that I've decided to draw every damned thing in this game and give up trying to learn 3d programs any time soon).

More art dumpage to bring my thread back to the front, lol.

Though, I'm debating whether I should make it 16:9 or 3:4 like conventional games. I'm a fan of widescreens, but I'm not sure how it'll play out. Here's how the 3:4 looks:

Also, if anyone has any advice on making music, I think my music guy could use some.

I basically like it. It has a nice Egyptian desert vibe, which I think is probably appropriate.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to interpret the triangle in the lower-right corner. Right now, I see it as a continuation of the vertical wall above it (in the center of the right side of the screen). But that seems to have a couple of problems with it:

1) I think that's a glass door on the right side, but someone leaving through that door would find themselves plummeting.

2) I'm not sure where the POV character is supposed to be standing.

Another issue is that the bottom of the image is fairly busy - how will it look with a dialogue window over it?

Hrmmm, let's tackle the easy one first, lol.

Image
A lot of the busy-ness gets covered up (which is a tad disappointing to me who worked so hard on it, lol). That might also cover the weird triangle issue. I didn't notice it at first, but now that you've pointed it out, it's starting to mess with my mind. @.@

Man I've got to find a way to draw large windows that don't look like doors on a glass ship, lol. (It seems I also have to start learning to draw door frames, hrmmmmm).

POV Issue... I could sit here and make excuses all day, but honestly, I've not a clue. I only realized that after I had started colouring. I guess they'd be magically floating somewhere right off the ship, a little towards the front, lol.

Mmmm, egyptian vibe. I like it. It definitely feels better than the 3d vibe.

Ah yeah, I saw that as well and am glad you noticed it, otherwise I'd point it out. XD It looks like they're standing in front of the ship, not on it).

You did a wonderful job drawing and coloring it without a 3D program. I'd be pretty much dead.

You can always make the text box a tad lighter if you wanted people to see more of the BG, right? Would that look fine?

I really like this BG, and I don't really want it make it seem like you'll need to redo the bottom if you want them to be on the boat and not "floating" in front, unless you make the bottom right more "flat" for them to stand on.The boat will just be bigger?

(The cat is really cute and it looks like the guy is looking at her ;););))

Thanks. :D

I'll probably mess with the transparency of the text box until it's a nice balance between legibility and bg visibility, lol.

I don't think there's really any ways to fix the POV issue without redrawing the whole thing. Sigh. Go go poor planning, lol.

(Lol, on a side note, I totally agree with your sig. I hate reading too. )

Instead of redrawing it, maybe you can keep this current BG and use it somehow. Maybe when they stand in front of their ship or when they dock somewhere?
I was thinking about it but then that makes the ship seem so small. o.o! It really is a nice background. Drawing it without 3D is painful.
and give up trying to learn 3d programs any time soon).
Have you heard of Google Sketchup? You probably did but it's supposed to make 3D quite easy to learn :D.

(I love pirates and desert themes!!! And about my sig, I dislike reading. But it means very good VNs make me want to read! :D)

I don't really have too much trouble modelling in 3d, it's setting the materials and textures and lighting that screws with me. I feel like to get a really good grasp on that, it's going to take me over a year+. Or maybe I'm just slow, lol. And even if I did just use the 3d program to plot out where everything is and paint over it, it kinda feels like a waste of time to me. I feel like I can draw a bit faster than I can model.

I think I'm just going to stick with the background for now, and when I go on to release later arcs, I'll change it then. I'm trying to get this whole first arc done by september, and at the rate I'm going, it's going to be a struggle, lol.

I still haven't figured out which screen resolution to use. (*A*)

Put absolutely no effort into fixing the POV (and various other) issue(s). Sigh...Oh well. I think I'm gonna stick with the 16:9 format though.
