Ah, sounds generic right? Yeah, that is right... Anyway, the story is simple: A girl at highschool, life goes by, the end. There is no complexity in the initial plot. However, depending on the path you choose, which I will write numerous ones, the story will become more and more intricate.
Some examples: A woman who can't give up her boyfriend, a child who's only wish is to attend high school before she dies, and a boy who's forced to dress as a girl and is abused day-by-day.
For those people interested, just tell me. I have trouble with that kind of thing.

Re: Requesting any help, will evaluate. (Honey Heart)
So it is basically a game about a girl and her interactions with other people?

20 characters is a lot, not only does each character has to have their own unique story or scenario but the character art will be evil. 20 characters each with several facial expressions as well as several sets of clothes. I say 20 is too much but good luck with your game anyway. With that many characters, there won't be an issue with replay value with 20 endings more if you plan on a good and a bad ending for each character.

Twenty characters is too many unless you're Ken Akamatsu ... or you restrict sprites to one body sprite, three expressions (eyebrows down, mouth frown; eyebrows up, mouth smile; eyebrows middle, mouth closed.) and you have no alternate outfits or animations ...
Don't worry, we can get through it together. I didn't forget about you! I just got overwhelmed.
