WIP - Planet Stronghold, a light-RPG in space

I started this while waiting for the voices/pictures/texts to be delivered for my other games. I wanted to see if I could program a RPG battle system in Renpy. It turns out that (SO FAR) was easier than I thought 8)
I haven't much to say for now about the game itself: in practice will be a mix with a VN and a RPG game, but very LIGHT RPG. I want to aim at the casual market, even if as you can see from the screenshots and the video below, there still will be quite some stats and a decent inventory.

This looks very promising, the battke system looks sophisticated. I like the designs, is it a new artist ?

:D Honestly Jack, do you ever sleep at night? Every time I turn around you got one new idea followed by another. Your starting to make some of us look bad. :wink: I just watched the video of this like twenty minutes ago and thought it looked intersting. It's nice to see you keep cranking out new ideas back to back. What's the summary for this game? :P

I like the CG backgrounds. Usually I'm not a fan, but these ones seem to fit really well with the genre.

Lol well being an indie in europe is a really hard task, believe me ;) beside I really work less now, with renpy, than I was doing before when I was using C. The speed/power of python literally ridiculize the C/C++ dev time!

The summary? You're Lisa Nelson (yes female main character!), a young cadet just out of the army who get sent to Planet Stronghold that is supposed to be the best human outpost in space and an excellent training facility as well. But of couse as soon as you arrive you notice that something is going wrong...
You'll also met several other characters, and during the battle you'll control them (outside it they'll be independent).

lol, your RPG doesn't look light at all! You make my system look like a toddler's toy. =P

Yes well probably is "light" compared to RPGmaker XP standard games, don't know. I played some PC games that had more stuff and complexity (stats, skills and in general the gameplay). For time reasons on this first RPG I'm making I will have some quests and freedom of movement, but I think the main plot will be mainly linear with some early endings but nothing like bionic heart for example, who has lot of variety in terms of plot/subplots.

I uploaded a new video, this one can be properly labeled as "battle system" (the other was more an inventory showcase!). At least shows the turns, hero and enemies attacking and even a bit of the various damage types and how they affec the weapon/armors:

The latest video looks very impressive! This game already has quite a bit of polish, even with the placeholder graphics.

Thanks :) I'm having fun doing this battle system, also because I can reuse it later for other games (even with different settings like fantasy). For now I'll keep it simple but should be able to expand it later with more features.

Added the quest screen today, which is the same of Heileen 2 with the extra parameter EXP (experience points for completing each quest). I also started defining the various class / generic skills.

Ok today had the insane idea of rewriting the whole skills system from scratch :lol:
But this is the final look. I took inspiration from Fallout 3 that I'm currently playing a lot on the XBox...

It looks so nice! The customization is great, and this game is starting to look a lot less "light" in RPG terms. XD
