How dare you like Dallas! *shoots you a million times*
I had a brief play last night - up to Beau joining - and to be honest, every single one of the other characters, without exception, was pretty much totally unlikeable. Beau has some potential, maybe, but I'm honestly a little reluctant to play the game just 'cause Robin irritates me so much, I wouldn't like to be a party to her success! So yeah - I like Dallas the most just 'cause so far he's been the most rational, consistent and unannoying of the lot of them.
I'd also suggest that the mechanics of 'Band Management' probably need a little more explanation and/or feedback - or perhaps a slower introduction. It makes intuitive sense that working makes your stress go up and resting makes your stress go down, but there are some incongruities (like writing music making your music skill go down?!) and some unexplained events ("Robin has scrapped the song she was writing [for the last month or two of game time] and started again on a new one" - why? Was her stress level too high (1/2 or so)? Was it just a random event? Will it happen every single time I want to write a song? Is the game just not letting me write songs just now (in which case, couldn't it have told me so I didn't waste the time)?
(Also it seems like several days go by at a time, and it gives me a bit of an out-of-control feeling. I didn't see anywhere that the game told me how long it was I was choosing an action for, but the game makes a pronounced tick for each day, as if time is getting away from the player.)
All in all, though, it looks like a promising start, although I'm hoping that the characters start being more likeable as the game progresses and despite all evidence so far to the contrary, it's actually going to turn out that it's an
A Christmas Carol-esque tale of self-improvement.
(I must say, though, I'm not sure I like the overt 'homage' to the
Rock Band visuals.)
