Well the anime more than the VN really since I've only read the first Higurashi VN arc (can't afford the English translated atm, but there's a free translation of the first ep done).

Higurashi? Well, I know it, but I never read it, nor watched the anime, so I dont have any influence from it
I recieved influece from tsukihime though (the idea of telling different stories if I went for different paths)

The atmosphere came off slightly as a Higurashi style, even if you haven't watched/read it Bolt If you're interested in creating a character based mystery novel, though, Higurashi is something you should really watch/read. Though looking at the themes you have they don't match up slightly, but oh well XD I see Higurashi in a lot of things
