Re: [WIP] Papa Pirate, Baby Bandit. (Potential GxB, GxG.)
Having played Princess Maker 2 a ton, I'm really looking forwards to this!
I like the premise of *raised by two guys who don't have a clue how to raise a child*....that adds to the fun I think... there's too many *father type is wonderful and knows everything* out there. I love the idea of two guys who don't have a clue about how to raise a child - or just don't have a clue about anything, period! Maybe she'd view them more as buddies than her parents?
I like the graphics too (and I'm not big on graphics), and hope you can get this done soon! *put tax refund money aside for this*

From the way she speaks to them, I'd say she kind of does consider them more like brothers/pals than parents. She does call Kiel "Dad", though.

This game looks fun. I have to confess that I really liked Princess Maker, and this seems like a pretty fun twist to the concept. the graphics are very nice, too.
I couldn't help but analyze the walking sprite, though. For the most part, it looks quite nice, but the coloring of the hair doesn't seem quite right, mostly because it doesn't match the map you'll be using her on. The shine just seems far too bright and localized. It looks more like a circlet than light reflection. If you're going to keep using the more toned down palette for the maps, I suggest changing the shading of the hair to something similarly washed out.
If you feel like you absolutely must keep the shine, I at least recommend getting rid of some of the stray white pixels on the tops and bottoms of the reflection bit. They make the sprite look rougher than it is.
That aside, Is that lava background really pixel art? If so, that's extremely impressive. I'm not really sure how it would be possible, though, given how many colors it has. It would take days to make something like that pixel-by-pixel.
Anyways, sorry for all the nitpicking. I do think this looks really nice.

Haha, the lava background isn't pixel art. I just ended up throwing it in at the last minute.
I see what you mean about the shine, and we'll definitely fix that up, but our initial sprite was extremely washed out and you kind of had to squint and tilt your head sideways to get a good view of it amongst the details. I want to make the finalized sprite highly saturated so it's fairly easy to see where you are.

ARGH this is waaay TOO CUTE!! <333kinougames wrote:Updating again with our newest sprite and another test~
I'm actually okay with the way the highlights go around the head, but I guess it does kinda stick out a lil as compared to the bg. Maybe just darken the highlight slightly? Overall it looks fine to me though.
I was borderline tempted when I first saw the art but now that I've seen the pixel stuff, I seriously want to play this game <3
Can't wait to see this released. :'D

Looks promising. Which vendor you'll use to sell it? Asking because I think there could be many indie potentially interested in affiliating it.

Re: [Updated!] Papa Pirate, Baby Bandit. (Potential GxB, GxG
Honestly, at this point, I have a giant, massive list of potentials and am gathering as much information on them as possible. After Recettear, I might gain the confidence to go for Steam. For hard copies, we're definitely hitting Comiket in Japan this summer, and likely AX and Otakon here in the states.
I've been looking around the basic sites, the indie sites, the anime game sites, kind of just trying to see what looks good and what kind of works best for our genre. This game is high on gameplay, so I feel like we can go outside of the staunch VN locations, but at the same time I don't want to hit places that are too heavily generic, either.
Right now, it's still flying high up in the air. I'll certainly listen to any advice you've got on it.

Sorry I meant if you're going to sell it directly online, if you'll use a vendor with a good affiliate system (BMT, Plimus) or some other payment less-affiliate friendly like paypal, google checkout, and so on (I wouldn't recommend it).

Oh, highly likely we'll use BMT for direct sales. Heard tons of good things about it. We'd definitely never use paypal. D:
