Foxtaile: We're alive!

Remember Foxtaile? It's alive and kicking! The script is now fully converted into game data, and EsperKnight is currently working to implement the entire decision tree. Still no graphics except for a few pieces of character art eclipse was so kind to provide (and a few pieces of BG art by qq who, I fear, is no longer on the team), and no sound and music at all (except for two pieces I'd love to implement) but... it's almost playable! I'm really excited about it, and I really hope we can start to work on it again seriously after NaNoRenO.

I'm still looking for a new BG artist. I'd LOVE eclipse to do the job, but the more shoulders, the lighter the individual workload. Whoever applies should be good with traditional Japanese architecture and nature scenes (especially bamboo forests). Also, anyone who can either write music himself or point me to places where I could find license-free music in traditional Japanese court-music style is welcome to help me in my quest.

Let's do it right THIS time around!

Latest update: Expect an alpha demo right on time with the NaNoRenO deadline! We won't have adequate art, we won't have adequate music, we sure as hell won't have a full game, but we'll have an almost complete engine and quite a bit of fun for you! EsperKnight and I are currently working hard to fix some final bugs in the script and to add a few more features to the engine. So look forward to April 1st - we'll be there, and this won't be April's Fools!

That demo, will that be something like Winn Freddie? Art-less? Or does "not adequate art" mean something along the lines of the Snowing Clear Skies demo? Some sketches, but basically no placeholders.?

Character art: uncolored and entirely missing one main character ^^
BG art: somewhat complete, but not up to par with the character art

The demo will be the complete introduction into the world of Foxtaile, plus a few choices. It ends before the story becomes REALLY diverse :)

OUR DEMO IS COMPLETE!

All that remains is putting it online somewhere, and renaigames.com comes to mind.

eclipse, if you can read this, would you mind hosting the Foxtaile demo?

Cool! I was just about to mention Foxtaile in a different thread. Anyway, maybe you can make it an attachment here (don't know about the limit, 10MB was it..?) Or some of the free host services that expire in a few days...

The limit for attachment is 50 MB. See this post.

Yeah, I'd be willing to host Foxtaile.
...Now it's just a matter of getting the file. 8)

Just tried the demo. I like the whole situation since it's quite original and is supported by expressive characters and good music (though absent in the later parts).
I'm less happy with the interface which is a bit rough (graphically) and doesn't let you do much except click to go forward. It's sad for other engines but once you've tried RenPy, it's hard to make without some of its options ^^;.

I'm also curious : how much of the whole game does the demo show ? According to what happens it looks like it's really a very small fragment of the whole story, which is very promising in terms of length ^^.

It IS a very small fragment of the entire story; in terms of raw text, it's around 1/5th. Also, there are not yet all features implemented in the engine; there's still no text reverse, no load/save and also, no extras :) We're going to work something more out, though, before the final release, and we're also going for different BG art.

At least, it's going along, and if I feel like it, I might even expand the plot a little ^_^

Very gripping story, a wonderful idea and pretty good character graphics - so far, so good! Waiting impatiently for the final version!
