K-on!: Alumni Tea Time (NEW DEMO 6/29/11)

First off, this project has been under works since early August, when I watched K-on and fell in love with it. I thought, "This show would be bad ass, if stuff actually happened." I had a few months until college started and was pretty board so I sat down with ye olde pen and paper and wrote out a brief scenario for what it would be like to go to college with the girls of K-on! 11 months and three quarters of class later I have a playable demo that contains the first half of Mugi's route. Why 11 months for just that one route? Well, I've been doing everything on my own and have college classes so, this project's been put on the back burner several times to make time for studying and what-not. Well anyways, now that you've read all of that rambling, take a stab at the demo:

NOTE THIS DEMO IS THE OLD ONE A NEW LINK WILL GO HERE WHEN THE NEW ONE IS RELEASED ON 6/29
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2UOOQH61

Be warned, it's a little more than 200MB.

DESCRIPTION:

It has been a little more than a year since the original four members of Sakura high's K-on graduated and went to college at Nagoya University. That entire first year of college was hellish and filled with trouble after trouble for all of the girls. From not getting enough people to form their own music club, to joining another music club full of bullies. But now that their sophomore year has come everything is going to be different! Azusa has finally graduated and joined their ranks at Nagoya University. With her there, they are just one member and an adviser short of starting a new club!

Meanwhile, freshman Takeru Fujisaki is somewhat nervous about his first day of class at Nagoya University. He's been home schooled most of his life and he's not really any good at making new friends. Though smart, and incredibly talented with the fiddle, he doesn't have any plans for joining a club or a band. All of that changes when a mysterious girl in a chicken costume gives him the invitation of a life-time...

Some Misc. Stuff:
*This game so far contains over 5,000 lines of dialogue.
*This game contains coveted guest stars such as: Ronald Mcdonald and Tonya from the game KiraXKira.
*The only route currently available is the first half of Mugi's but I may or may not do the others depending on how well recieved the Mugi's route is.
*The demo has questionable french-kissing, but does not have any adult content yet!
*There will eventually be adult content! (When that time comes I'll start a new thread in the adult releases area.)
*The game's native resolution is in a 16:9 ratio. That means it's best enjoyed on on monitors/TVs with a relsolution of 1280*720 or 1366*768 or 1920*1080. I had a friend test it, and those with monitors in a 4:3 aspect ratio running on resolutions such as 800*600, or 1024*768 will experience black bars across the top and bottom of the screen in fullscreen mode.
*The game has a early branching plot! Make your choices wisely (Don't worry, for the demo its impossible to choose anyone other than Mugi or get a bad end).
*Mugi's route focuses on her issues with sexuality, and the fact that she's been keeping a very interesting secret from her friends since she met them in high school...
*Sorry guys, I couldn't find a new and super awesome font yet, so you're stuck with Comic Sans ;)

NOTE: THIS GAME HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RELATION TO THE NEW MANGA! A friend pointed out that the new manga(s) cover events taking place while the girls are in college. Unless the new mangas introduce some revolutionary new details about the characters, I have no intentions of making the game cannon to it.

NEW, MORE AWESOME VERSION WITH OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF MORE GAMEPLAY COMING ON JUNE 29th!

Definitely try for all arcs if you can. Maybe try looking for a team so that your workload is reduced and you can get it done faster. I'm sure you could find some free workers willing to work on a game based on a popular series like K-On!

I've actually been considering finding a new font, but I couldn't find anything that fits K-on's "layed back" or slightly "Girly" image better than Comic Sans. If anyone has good suggestions for one feel free to throw them my way.

Have you checked out this website yet? There's a ton of fonts and you're bound to find something that fits.

Here are some other sites I've bookmarked in the past where you can look through

I don't know, I think comic sans kind of fits. I'm not a fan of the typeface, but it doesn't seem out of place. And at least it has reasonable automatic kerning.

Yay, K-On! rocks. :) I'll be looking forward to this game. ~ I hope there's a scene with Ritsu without her hairband.

What sort of themes are you planning for this VN? Or is it just light and fluffy stuff?

A while ago, the Otaku in Review podcast talked about K-on!, including such topics as why they liked the series. One interesting comment the podcasters made was that they felt the TV series was a form of non-sexual moe. They stated that the K-on! anime made them feel like they were the girls' parents.

Obviously, not everyone will agree with their views. But if you want to create a fan-game based on what could happen after the series (as it stands right now), keep in mind that you might incur the wrath of some fans. Myfistus_clarvetta, it's your decision if you want to create a worksafe game based on K-on!, or if you want to eventually make an adult game. Just expect that people have strong opinions on what the series represents, and how to portray the characters.

Make sure you think about who the new character Takeru Fujisaki is, and what his role will be. You will want to make sure that he is not a Marty Stu. And you might be wise to make sure he has enough characterization to make him more than a stand-in for the audience.

I'm interested in your game, and looking forward to your demo. I just wanted to give you a few things to think about.

Thnx for the thoughtful input. The reason I've mentioned plans for an adult version is because you WOULD NOT BELIEVE how easy it is to stray into the stereo type "perverse harem" territory that you see in animes such as To love Ru and Maids vs. Butlers when there is one male and five females. I've actually got a six page word document full of scenes cut from the script because they seemed too inappropriate, or felt like they might be leading into murkey waters. When I get around to it, I'd really like to make a version of the game with this six pages of hard work that at the momment, is going to waste(Though that probably won't be for a long time.)

Overall, the whole idea of this project is "Keep as true to what K-on! is as I possibly can, while throwing in a few adult situations and a little adult humor, and keeping it all PG-13." Though I wouldn't advise playing it at work, because you'll have too much fun and forget to do your job

I can't wait to play the demo! I'm a huge fan of K-On myself...
*random: I remember the time when I was about to buy a cd of K-On, there was this boy who grabbed it the same moment I did. Argh! In the end he had it and I so held a grudge against him for it >:(

Perfect! As a fan of K-ON, especially like the insert song "Huwa Huwa Time", I just cannot wait to enjoy this game.
I hope this game could also bring me delight and joy as K-ON!~
