Sunflowers?!

#1 Post by Ciera » Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:11 pm

My first real background (art?) submission, and it's of a field of sunflowers! It's entirely been created on an art program on my computer, and it took a good long time (hours-wise) to create. It's a digital painting.

Any suggestions for improvement? >.<? Maybe?

THis is beautiful. It reminds me of a yaoi manga but I can't remember it's name. The only thing I'd change is the windmill, it needs to be as obvious as the sunflowers.

Uh, sorry but I don't think you painted that... Just a very photoshopped photo. The pixelation at the top right corner is evidence of some kind of filtering, not to mention the unneeded amounts of sharp black there, and the obvious hatching filter...

in other words...

Please don't claim your filters photos as digital paintings. However if you just want advice on filtering photos(which are often used in vns) I can definitely help you with that.

I would also shift the saturation down a couple (hundred) notches.

Now I think you are doing it wrong...

OK... first the image is way to dark... making it look like something out of a B-rated horror movie shown every Wednesday afternoon... I assume you are after the hand painted effect that will fit the stereotypical OELVN BG...

Image

What you need to do is to crop individual parts and apply the paint daubs filter then adjust the hue and saturation to the point that it looks cartoony or poster like... change the cloud layer by googling a cloud image... apply pain daubs and adjust hue saturation and you get this... BTW, you might want to apply lens flare for the sun...

Now the reason why I told you to cut individual parts is to make it convenient to replace the cloud/sky part and make several time of the day variations and other weather phenomenon... (see examples)

For protection against lawsuits... just flip the image horizontally... works every time...
