Feedback for my first digital artwork/ colouring/ lineart ?

#1 Post by RainingRipples »

So yea, this is my first attempt at digital art and lineart.
I'm horrible at shading , folds , and detail in general ?
Any tips on how to improve this ?
As you can see, my highlights are horrible.
It looks better without. ):
ahhaha.

-I dont know what happened but part of the line disappeared. :L

Questions:
1. Do you use a mouse or a tablet and what program do you use?
2. What did you do to try and get those highlights?

Well, with highlights, it's all about choosing the right colours and acknowledging the direction of light. The first thing you need to do is figure out where your light source/s are and stick to them. When you shade you need to imagine the objects as 3D and imagine how light would effect them. In it's simplest form, whatever is closer to the light will have a highlight, and whatever is further away will be in shadow. You also need to pick a highlight colour that is whatever the light colour is. Light comes in a great deal of colours. I usually do it on a layer and turn down the opacity until it is what I want. The other thing to do with highlights and shadows is to acknowledge what the material is. Some things are shiny and some things are soft, and this effects what kind of highlights it has. You also need to use darker colours for your shadows, such as your skin.
