Tips on making it so you can chose between two player chara?

I was wondering, is there a simple way to make it so a player can chose between two characters to play in a VN using Ren'Py? Without having to write two completely separate games? I would like to see if I can make it so a player can chose between a female and male character, but I am not entirely sure how to go about that.

I am actually experimenting with this concept myself on a little side project of mine in which you can choose either a male or female character. The idea is to, of course, at the start of the game choose male or female (so create a "male" and "female" label). The story can remain completely the same, just copy and past what you have written for the first label into the second label (though you'll probably have to have the label names different, for example "choice1female", "choice1male"). If you intend to have side images, then of course you are going to have to modify the show of side images in the male or female label. That's the best I could come up with for that concept, with very little modifying, and it's easier than having to write a completely different story, so I suggest after writing a good chunk, copy and past it into your other label and do the modifications.
