Need suggestions: Formats for Artists' Alley

#1 Post by CaesMRaenes » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:58 pm

I don't know if this is the place to put this so move the topic if I placed it incorrectly.

Now: currently my problem is how I should sell this artwork at Tekkoshocon. I'm primarily selling bookmarks and cards, but if it creates a good sell, I might make buttons out of it too.

So what I need are suggestions. Should this artwork be sold as a bookmark? As a card? Or should it be just a print? Also, please give your opinion whether or not you would purchase this. Or critique it. I'm open to new ideas.

It would be of great help for future reference.

Thanks ahead of time.

P.S. The idea of BOOKMARK B and BOOKMARK C: it's kinda like a charm. Two halves of a whole. I'm sure you can get the idea.

I like the way the bookmarks look a little more than the card. Bookmark "A" is my favorite. The other two are nice, but because of the heart with the hand, I think "A" works better. I've seen a lot of artists sell bookmarks, so I assume it's a fairly popular and useful thing to do.

Of course, you can totally sell it as more than one thing, too. Tekko is one of my sweet home cons (I used to go to CMU). Have they finally moved to the David L. Lawrence Convention center? I remember we used to be itty bitty~

Yup. Moved from the hotel at Green Tree to the David L. Lawrence Convention center. It's a lot bigger now and really open. The Dealer's Room, where they're placed, is super huge with a tall ceiling and a wide area to walk. The Artists' Alley, as well, feels like it's been placed in a ballroom/rich dining room area. And the concerts are held in a bigger room itself, similar to the Dealer's Room as far as size goes, which is pretty cool.

It's really cool that you used to go to CMU. I'm currently at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh so I think I'm pretty close by if anything. We're pretty much smack-middle of most of the universities anyways.

I have to agree, bookmark A is my favorite. However, I think you could pull off a 2 part bookmark if you had an asymmetrical design on them.

If you don't mind me asking, what material are you printing these on?
Currently working on 1 VN

Story Concept - 100%
Screens - 10%
Character Design - 90%
Sprites - 0%
Scripts - 2%
BGM - 0%

Thanks for the input.

I actually printed them on 100-bind paper that's semi-glossy on both sides.

Wait a minute. You were at Tekko? In Artist's Alley? And I didn't know when I went? Aaaaaaargh. If only I checked this forum beforehand.

Wait. You were there? At Tekko? In Pittsburgh? O_o This past weekend?

I worked Friday and Saturday and overslept Sunday. To juggle your memory, I was with Mad Hat Studio and sold bookmarks, stickers, and buttons. My friend dressed as a steampunk Mad Hatter. And Friday, we had 6 people behind the table for some reason. Mad Hat Studio was also next to Kevin Bloke's table and the guys of Stuffed Sushi. I was the only asian girl there.

Saturday, I wore a revealing purple shirt with a butterfly design in the back. >_< It was all I had left to wear.

I seem to vaguely recall you. I know I saw you at least. Your friend as well. Unfortunately, I was completely boring and not in costume, so there's absolutely no chance that you would have remembered me if you saw me at all.

Ah well, I guess there's always next year? XD

Haha. Yeah. XD I guess I wouldn't be able to recognize you unless you had bought something or was dressed as someone. There will always be next year. I'll be around even though I'm graduating in September so I'll definitely be with Mad Hat Studio. See you around then. :P

Though I have to admit: you got me really excited there. XD I have never met anyone from a forum before so I really got an adrenaline rush there.

Heh, I'm sorry to disappoint then. XD At least someone from a forum passed by you at some point? It's really not the same, sadly.

I almost went in costume, too. I just wasn't able to get it all together in time. If only I did, then you may have remembered me. Bah. I'll make sure to have one next time.

We do apparently both live in the same area though, so maybe there's an off chance we'll run into each other on the streets at some point.

XD I'm not disappointed. Just excited that someone's in Pittsburgh with me. Do you attend a school around in Pitt?

I'm just going to CCAC for the moment, but there's a good chance I'm sticking around next year when I transfer. For now I'm living in Squirrel Hill, but I do pass by the AIP area now and then. I used to spend a pretty good amount of time on the campus, though not nearly as much now. Do you spend any time around CMU or Pitt?

I've been to the University of Pitt, only for the GameStop around there. Otherwise, I'm a wanderer around Downtown and a starving artist of AIP. :P

XD Well, I do visit that Gamestop. Maybe one day we'll both be there. We should organize to get the same game at the same time.
