Morhighan's art updates
I want to keep a track of my progress with visual novel art, so I will be posting this general VN art and art thread so that I can watch my development. Feel free to critique, etc.
Thank you for visiting!

Re: Morhighan's personal art updates
I like these, I can't really point out anything off about your chars. I think they're well done.
I am not a great artist but I would suggest using a dark gray instead of a black for everything (even when you intend it to be black). Black is such a harsh color and you can't give it any depth at all. Once you use a super dark gray, you can add some shading/highlights to give you characters some dimension. I think your hair/faces/etc look fine but you can probably really spruce it up with some highlights and shadows.

Re: Morhighan's personal art updates
Thank you! I've actually been thinking the same myself about the grey and the highlights. Everything's so stark. Also, I pinpointed what was bothering me. It was the eyes! Now I'm playing around with them, trying out a more anime look.

Is it weird that all I can see is Gerard, Mikey and Frankie from My Chemical Romance? o.o
Turns out my unicorn was a donkey with a plunger stuck to its head.

Re: Morhighan's personal art updates
Not weird at all, their music (and maybe faces >_>; ) have had a huge influence on the book, at least muse wise. A lot of the chapters are named after their songs. At least 3.
You'll see other familiar faces soon. And...I don't fail as an artist! 8D So this is actually a huge compliment. Thank you.
Edit:
More art, working on the style a bit...

Re: Morhighan's personal art updates
I think the woman's waist is a little too thin, maybe? And the fact that the first two characters from the first post look off is probably because of their arms, the first one's arms are not as defined as the other two resulting the body looking like a single block, and the second one's body is not wide enough. The third one looks good because the arms are clearly defined and the body more in proportion. Other than that, they look really distinct so that's very good.

Re: Morhighan's personal art updates
Yeah, it is pretty think. And thank you--I do have problems with arms, so that's probably what's throwing them off for me. Thank you!
A sort of art update, since I consider music to be an art:

Please check out my compositions. The pieces "Perdition" and "Cityscape" are an OP/ED set respectively, and I'd like to get some feedback on them. Thank you! The others are background pieces.

Re: Morhighan's art/music updates
Regarding Perdition: At the beginning the tempo seems to be slightly accelerating. Maybe it's the effect you wanted...I don't know. I thought it should be steady. At 0:40 there is an abrupt change in style which is noticeable and distracting. The melody is good, so if you make the transition more natural it should be okay.
Near the end of Cityscape there seem to be a case of "dirty pedal"; inharmonious chords caught by the pedal. But that's a minor blemish and can be easily remedied in the final version. Tempo also accelerated at beginning, as well as becoming unsteady at various parts, such as around 1:11. I think that there was also an unplayed or too soft note near 0:38, compared to the later parts.
I hope that you will find a better way to record your music? The quality right now is too low even for casual inattentive listening. I think the easiest way is to do it digitally by rendering the sound using a music composition program.

Re: Morhighan's art/music updates
Thank you for your reviews and advice! It means a lot to me. I'm honored that my music would move someone. Timeless Continuity makes me nostalgiac as well.
I'm working on more digital recordings. Perdition and Cityscape were done with my camera mounted on my piano. The others were done on Finale and Aria Maestroso.
I made about 3 more pieces, which I shall be posting soon. I've also been commissioned to do a soundtrack, which hopefully I'll be able to post up online.

Re: Morhighan's art/music updates
The first three characters remind me of the band members of My Chemical Romance. If you don't know who they are, look 'em up and you'll see what I mean.
Projects:
Alone- (Horror/Sci-Fi) Complete! Link
Demokratiya- (Adventure/Action) I'm kind of winging it with this one. Goal is 100,000 words. Yeah, it's gonna take a while.

Re: Morhighan's art/music updates
I like your art, I think your proportions are not too shabby. I really think you should hang your balls out there and attempt a piece that contains full arms and hands. I'm TERRIBLE at hands but the only way to get better is by practicing.

Re: Morhighan's art/music updates
Thank you very much! I actually did do a hand piece recently.
And Yes, MCR was definitely an inspiration for them.

Another attempt at spriting. I think I'm getting better?
