Re: What kind of drawing tablets do you guys use?
I use the... smallest model of Genius. ToT
It's a Genius EasyPen1045 with a measurement of 4" x 5.5" . I'm so prehistoric LOL [Adding to the fact I use an old version of Photoshop XD]
Well, I was kinda happy that I bought a small one because when I bought a big one, I had to clear away the keyboard and mouse when I draw, and I like using both mouse and pen when I work, because I had been a mouse artist for around 4 years and I'm pretty used on being one.
I have to apologize I can't say anything about the life of my tablet, because I just bought it February 5 this year [and started doodling on the back with my mark-all marker XD]. Once I save enough money, I'm gonna buy a new, bigger one.
I was just kinda wondering why the hell is a Wacom so expensive. I bought mine for like 1,890Php [lucky me I got a discount and it became 1,800Php] while the bigger one costs like 2,000+Php. I looked at the other store and a Wacom Bamboo is around 6,000 and a Bamboo Fun around 10,000.
P.S. One dollar is around 40Php.

I have a Wacom Intous 3 33cm, cost me $630AU.
Wacom are a very reputable brand and do a range from amateur (bamboo), artist (intous) and professional (graphire *edit- I meant cintiq ><). They have excellent standards in control and pen pressure. I know hey are highly favoured by most. I haven't really used many other tablets, so I can't really compare too much, but Wacom does make a damn good tablet.

Graphire was replaced with the Bamboo line.
I have a Bamboo fun tablet. It was cheap but it did everything I wanted it to do. Plus the pen is just outstanding. I love it but it took me a while to get through the learning curve. Going from drawing on paper to having to watch yourself draw on a monitor is tricky. I'm so used to watching my hand that it took me awhile to get over it.
If you got the money though go grab a Cintiq
The lord of all drawing tablets.

That's a bit wrong. If you have money to BURN, then buy Cintiq.
If you have money and interested to go pro, then buy Intuos.
If you have money but only for hobby or simply "sampling" a tablet, then buy Bamboo.
Even for a professional, Cintiq is still pretty expensive. But then again, for a true professional, even a Graphire is more than enough...

But the cintiq is intended as the professional range, being the height of control and visual. It's price tag also indicates it is mostly for people who fully intend to make money off of their art, unless you really do have more money than sense. An intous can cover most things though. I still find it attractive to be able to see what I draw though.

I use a genius tablet easy pen i405. but i'd probably buy a bamboo tablet soon, simply cause many are recommending it and i myself think that its a better brand. Genius tablet isn't bad either but its not compatible in some drawing programs which prefers the said ''bamboo tablet'' >_> sigh....

I'll admit, I was afraid of committing to a Cintiq for a very, VERY long time because of the price tag. But having taken the plunge, I can say without a doubt that due to its capabilities, I will never, EVER resort to using physical media again unless absolutely necessary. It's just THAT freaking powerful and versatile.
Erm, but yeah...unless you're at least semi-pro, or draw a LOT, it's probably not going to be worth it.
Hmm. Lets just say buying a Cintiq is a lot like being in love. No one can tell you when you need to buy one. You'll just know the time has come when it happens.

Re: What kind of drawing tablets do you guys use?
Spec-wise (I mean purely from tablet spec, so not counting the whole monitor that jammed inside Cintiq), Intuos have higher spec compared to Cintiq, even if Cintiq is 10 times more expensive.
Indeed Cintiq is intended for professional use, no doubt about it, considering the heavy price tag. But Intuos also intended for professional use, though far cheaper than Cintiq, but you could see from the specification that it's not a hobbyist tablet.
The only reason why Cintiq is so damn expensive is because Cintiq acts like a monitor. (Good) monitor is expensive, perhaps one of the most expensive things in your PC. Cintiq is intended for professional who couldn't get used to draw using tablet (not seeing your hand while drawing). Some people have this difficulty, like those who has spent so long at traditional drawing. Perhaps we could say Cintiq is automatic-transmission car, while Intuos is manual transmission-car.
So if you could use Intuos that's cheaper but have higher spec, why bother buying Cintiq?

Re: What kind of drawing tablets do you guys use?
Hmm. I had to think about your questions before I could come up with a reasonable response.
That being said, consider this:
A blind person can adapt to their blindness. With enough training, they can move around freely with the use of a cane or a dog. Would one then say, "What's the use of having eyes?".
Being able to see is the natural state for a person - as is being able to see what one draws.
Cintiq is intended for professional who couldn't get used to draw using tablet (not seeing your hand while drawing).
I suppose I can't speak for all artists. But in my case, what you said is true. I couldn't get used to the tablet for more than just performing a few special techniques. The disconnect between my hand and the screen was too great for me to overcome. So if you could use Intuos that's cheaper but have higher spec, why bother buying Cintiq?

Yeah, of course with training, we could overcome anything. There's no reason why someone couldn't use "normal" tablet with enough training... or hardship. But you know people... discounting some people with disability, people are afraid to get out of their comfort zone or sometimes are just simply lazy.
So here comes Cintiq. Couldn't blame those businessman for taking a such obvious business opportunity, can we?

I'm too used to drawing digitally xD Now my hands keep going for the invisible ctrl+Z button when I use paper :<

I use a Silver Wacom Graphire 4x5 tablet with a pen-pressure of 512-something. I've been using it since 2007. Although i've been wanting to buy an INtuos since the pen-pressure is greater. . . .
Re: What kind of drawing tablets do you guys use?
I have one of the smaller black bamboo tablets, I got started with a waccom tablet when I first started graphic art in grade 10, and bought my tablet a year later.
