Some useful/interesting links
Sometimes somebody on my twitter timeline posts an article or a tutorial or something that I find useful, or I just find them randomly, but I always forget to bookmark them or share them properly. I thought maybe a thread like this would be a nice place to do so and share them with you C:
Most of the tutorials come from dA, since it's pretty much the only place I go for tutorials to... >>;
Art Tutorials:
Lackadaisy Expressions - this one is my fav experssions tutorial ever.
Expressions tutorial - another very good one I really like.
Emotions and facial expressions - a chart with *lots* of different emotions that explains a bit how the different parts of the face behave.
Face Tutorial - differences in facial features between characters are important C:
Tutorial: hair - because beginners (and people like me that should have learned already) tend to have troubles with hair.
Human anatomy overview - This one has links to a good amount of anatomy resources on the artist's comment area.
The perspective tutorial - it has everything, very simple and easy to understand.
Perspective + Composition Part 1 and Part 2 - It has nice examples and part 2 (composition) is definitely worth a look.
Coloring walkthrough- this one may be useful for allergic-to-backgrounds people here (like me!), since it deals with an image that's mostly a background. Links to other tutorials by this same artist at the artist comments part.
A note on light and color - this one deals with the hue, saturation and brightness of colors used to shade things.
Need more tutorials? Check the ArtistsHospital group on dA, it has A LOT.
Video tutorials:
One way to alter normal BG scene to creepy night BG scene on GIMP(contributed by James)
Quick way of laying flats and coloring in Photoshop (contributed by Lotus)
Others:
Animation 101: 5 ways to end your story
10 beneficial things artists should ask themselves
10 things every beginning artist should know
Animation 101: 7 Creative principles of Pixar
Understanding your style part 1 and part 2 - an interesting essay on style and anti-patterns when it comes to drawing characters.
Aditional Anti-patterns - addendum to the previous 2
Light Cage - a 3D model that helps you understand how light from different directions works.
Have fun looking at them (hopefully you'll find at least one you haven't seen before!), and feel free to share your fav tutorials or useful links here if you'd like C:

Re: Some useful/interesting links
Just checked the background coloring since I'm looking at lots of colorists portfolio for my next two projects, and it's amazing!! I should point many of them to that tutorial since is hard to find someone who color so well...

Bookmarked a lot of these (love the emotion one), thanks Deji.
Although hard to find good ones, I try to find youtube videos tutorial for GIMP/Photoshop. That way I can pause, play, and minimize them in background as I try and replicate what they did step by step.

Re: Some useful/interesting links
Wah, I haven't seen some of these before. I liked this bit:
"Co-operation, confidence and fun – that is the way”, says Mr Lasseter. He emphasises the complex managerial challenge to successfully motivate creative employees, and to create a climate conducive for creativity. “Creative people must believe that all others support them in making a great movie. They need to believe that all people involved understand what they talk about. Creative people are easily bored, moody, a bit difficult to handle. You have to make it fun for them, care for them. Creative people only produce really good work if you creatively challenge them. They have to like what they’re working on. They have to be damn proud of the fact that they’re a part of a particular project. That is again the task of the manager. Each time, you have to give them creative challenges. That’s difficult, but nobody said it is easy to lead creative people.”
It is so true.

Re: Some useful/interesting links
I figure this tutorial I found while browsing DA could come in handy during NaNoRenO! It's a video tut for really fast coloring/shading, I tried out the technique in Gimp and despite Gimp's lack of actions it still halved the time it took for me to color and shade.
You're probably going to have to turn the volume up for the video, but it's definitely worth a look if you're worried about not finishing your art in time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBDaOMw3l-0
Edit: I should probably warn you that JerkDouglas (the dude who did that tutorial) swears a lot.

Wow, these are really useful! Thanks, Deji-san~ >o<
I recently asked my favorite dA artist if she would do a coloring tutorial anytime and she said she would probably have time after her exams so if/when she puts it up; I'll link you guys to it~

Re: Some useful/interesting links
Great tutorials, I bookmarked them all. Do you know of any that help you match facial expressions with body poses? That seems to be my biggest issue right now. Maybe I just need practice

I'm not exactly sure what you mean with that D:dstarsboy wrote:Great tutorials, I bookmarked them all. Do you know of any that help you match facial expressions with body poses? That seems to be my biggest issue right now. Maybe I just need practice
If you're talking about body language, no, I haven't seen any useful art tutorial about it, but I've seen websites that tell you how to decipher body language.
Best way to learn about is doing research and observing yourself, people around you and, as last resource, photographs on the internet.
