Photo to Art technique - Photoshop

#1 Post by OokamiKasumi »

For those of you looking for new ways to make Photos into halfway decent backgrounds, I found this little gem on Deviant Art:

Image

Download Link --> http://egulumse.deviantart.com/art/Pain ... -197040141

This is an ACTION.
-- You save it on your computer and unpack it from it's file. In the Photoshop ACTIONs window, click the top right hand corner and choose LOAD ACTION.
-- Once the action shows up in the Action's window, (Painting Effects) open any image you want to play with and click on the Action's name to open the file. Choose one and then click on the green arrow at the very bottom of the window to Run the Action. It does everything for you.

When I first saw this, my jaw dropped. This particular technique looks like it will work very well with line art characters.

Well, as long as everyone isn't using the SAME pictures for backgrounds, it should be fine.

That was so rad. The only flaw I noticed is that the image must be a locked layer with the name background (which happens every time when you open a image).
The author of this deserves a prize for this, seriously, the different uses one can give to this are limitless.

She has another one in her gallery too: http://fav.me/d39bd2b , haven't tried yet.

Not exactly a flaw if you save the original image and then save the worked image as its own file.

Agreed! You can even use this for making photo-based characters, but you have to start with a Huge image to make it look right.

I gave that a try. It's actually QUITE useful because the results are in Layers which allows one to Choose the final effect.

Original - 1024x768
Image

At first glance, style 5 (5- R3den Siyah Kırm Sarı Gri path) doesn't look like much.

However, if you turn OFF layers, 3, 6, 2, and 4, you get:

If someone is looking for a minimalistic style, this might be something they could work with.

Original - 1024x768

Style: 5- R3den Siyah Kırm Sarı Gri path

Turn OFF all layers EXCEPT layer 1 and Background.

Looks a little like a comic book style to me. Very interesting.

Can this be used with Photoshop CS2?

Edit: Thanks for the answer, Aleema. :)
