Refreshing doesn't fix the problem. Navigating the labels, etc., presents the same problem. The correct script file is opened, but it doesn't go to the line. I've been using my system editor (which worked fine before—if it matters, I've been using Sublime Text), but I decided to install Editra/jEdit to see if those work.

After installing jEdit, Ren'Py won't let me select it as the text editor. Clicking on jEdit simply sets the text editor to "Not Set". Using Editra works just fine and does go to the correct file AND line. Still, I'd really rather use my system editor, if possible. :(

The system editor won't work - there's no way for Ren'Py to tell it what line to go to, so Ren'Py doesn't even try.

Could you do me a favor and see if a jEdit.edit.py file exists in the jedit directory?

Well strangely enough, my system editor worked just fine before this update, that's what I think is odd. D: That's why I liked the TODOs, haha. Oh well, I guess I can still do a document search easily enough.

Nope, that file doesn't exist there. This is what's in the directory:

Yes. This is what I've gotten. Even full re-installing both ren'py and jedit wouldn't help.

Right. And it's because jEdit.edit.py wasn't being distributed.

I've updated to .313, for obvious reasons.

I decided to update manually, but have the update files archived as well as the first pre-release 7z file in case you need me to check something again.

I got same behavior as before: first time said there was an error and didn't update, then the second time I tried worked fine. Not sure if something worth looking after or not (I can just tell my users to try at least 2 times to update!).

Thanks. Now it fixed and I can play around.

FYI, since I'll certainly forget to post this in the future:

The next pre-release of 6.14 will have a rewritten mac launcher, that is more robust to various errors reported in conjunction with the Steam platform.

Are you thinking about adding some code signing stuff too? (not sure how easy/hard that would be).
Some users on Mac are already starting to complain about the magical awesome really indie-friendly Gatekeeper "feature". They download Ren'Py games and the only choice is "move to trash" or "cancel". Not "open anyway". I foresee a storm of support request/forums posts... Thanks Apple!!

Rather than slackly demanding code signing, don't you have a moral imperative to educate these users on how to turn this 'feature' off?

For sure, but you have no idea what kind of users you can find. A few months ago I had to fight (verbally of course) with an user insisting that my .exe had viruses because the really crappy kaspersky was saying so. I pointed her to the virustotal site, showing that 39 out of 40 antivirus showed my .exe clean, and THEN she was convinced. Took me several minutes of wasted time, multiply that by thousands users and here it goes the whole day... and Gatekeeper has the potential of being a major PITA too :(

Obviously is not like I'm DEMANDING code signing, I know pytom is busy and he's already doing an incredible job keeping Ren'Py updated. I was just asking, and willing to pay him to do that and then release it for free for everyone.

edit: thinking better, explaining how to turn off is not the problem (I could use an email template!). The problem is that I'm sure a good amount of users won't even bother asking why doesn't work, assuming the download is broken or some other reason, and just not play the games at all.

Have you considered mentioning it on your download page?

It's going to be an increasing problem for all people releasing software for the Mac; Apple isn't going to do anything about it because it's their protection racket, so indie developers basically have two choices: engage in an education campaign and hope that they reach enough people and explain how to turn this piece of shit off, or bend over, drop trousers and take it.

Explaining it in the download page might be a good idea indeed! with screenshot and everything, should be enough to at least prevent some damage :)
