Is 'images' directory working ok? [FIXED]

EDIT: Fixed in 6.99.4

I've put this files in the images directory:

Code: Select all

images/bg meadow.jpg
images/sylvie.png
images/sylvie smile.png
And used this simple code:

Code: Select all

label start:
    scene bg meadow
    show sylvie
    s "You've created a new Ren'Py game."
    show sylvie smile
s "Once you add a story, pictures, and music, you can release it to the world!"
    return
It shows a red in-game error instead of the "sylvie smile" image: "Image 'sylvie' can't take parameters 'smile'. (Perhaps you got the name wrong?)"

It works fine renaming the file "sylvie.png" to "sylvie normal.png" and showing it with "show sylvie normal" instead of "show sylvie".

Is this an expected behaviour or a bug? The explanation in the docs doesn't tell about the need of tags in the image names.
http://renpy.org/doc/html/displaying_im ... -directory

The explanation about the older "config.automatic_images" did:
http://renpy.org/doc/html/config.html#v ... UMENTATION IN config.automatic_images:
...
If the name consists of at least two components, and no image with that name already is defined, Ren'Py will define that image to refer to a filename.
With the example list of separators, if your game directory contains:
eileen_happy.png, Ren'Py will define the image "eileen happy".
lucy/mad.png, Ren'Py will define the image "lucy mad".
mary.png, Ren'Py will do nothing. (As the image does not have two components.)[/quote]

Personally, I'd prefer that names with only one component could be used too, like in my first example. It seems more intuitive for me, and the developer can avoid to write the "normal" tag every time.
