Console Support?

#1 Post by rabcor » Fri Feb 19, 2016 2:38 am

Any chance we can get Playstation 4 and Xbox One support? Maybe PSP and Vita even?

Would be nice to support more platforms, also this engine could grow in popularity among Japanese developers if we have console support. Think this could happen?

Since these consoles all have online markets now, it makes sense to try to market our VN's there.

There's an outside chance of supporting Xbox through universal windows applications, although I haven't looked into what that entails yet.

In general, console support seems like it's not the right place to spend a lot of development time on. You wind up on this sort of treadmill of development - say I was to magically develop PS Vita support tomorrow, how long do you think it would be useful for? Maybe a year or two, and then a new handheld console comes out, and you have to start over again.

It's the same thing with TV consoles, except for longer time horizons.

I guess my question is - is there anyone that thinks a TV is a better way to play a VN than an Android or iOS tablet, or a computer? I have trouble seeing many people in that camp, so I can't see myself putting in the massive investment of effort that would be needed to support consoles.

I'm not going to say no forever. If someone was to say, "hey, Tom, here's a seven-figure check with your name on it", it would be really interesting to consider. But it's not something I could do as part of the open source project.
