Hi! Browsers tend to pile up lots of security limitations, meaning you have to run the game through a web server (like the one bundled in Ren'Py).
Clicking on index.html used to work with Firefox but I see that doesn't anymore.
There's more information at the "Play offline" entry at https://renpy.beuc.net/#faq
I'm adding to my TODO list that this needs a clear error message.
Ren'Py for the web browser
Re: Ren'Py for the web browser
Thanks. There was a unique origin privacy setting in Firefox that, when disabled, allows it to run... but probably best not to ask people to intentionally disable a security feature. Too bad.
Re: Ren'Py for the web browser
What did you want to do btw?
If the player wants to runs your game from the browser, you publish the RenPyWeb build to an existing website.
If the player wants to download your game, then you use the normal Ren'Py builds (pc/mac/android/etc.).
Downloading the RenPyWeb build and opening index.html locally would be a suboptimal way to run the game.
