One one hand, the Maemo platform is based on Debian, with some amount of customization. Python is available via http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/
Resolution of the devices is 800*480px widescreen.
PyGame has been successfully run via the SDK, Frets on Fire being the game.
Ovi store will, apparently-eventually carry Maemo software as well.
On the other hand, device base is not terribly large, I do not know how much work it would take and wether it's worth it in the long run. Seems, however, a lot easier than iPhone support..

Re: Ren'Py on Maemo
I'm trying to port Ren'Py to the OpenPandora console. It uses the same screen resolution (800x480), the same SoC (TI OMAP3530) and is also Linux based, so I suppose if I get it to work, maybe the same package could be used with Maemo...

discusses a port of Ren'Py to mameo. I don't plan to work on it myself, as mameo is more-or-less a dead platform, and was never very popular in the first place. Ditto for openpandora, which IIRC has total sales in the thousands - which is much less than what Android sells in a day. Since only a small fraction of users on these minority platforms will use Ren'Py, it's tough to justify the additional development effort.
That being said, I can try to support people who want to port Ren'Py to other platforms themselves.
