My gut feeling is that this will happen one day, probably when 3d hardware falls to the point where I can equip my box with it for a hundred bucks or so.

well, at least with the no-glasses 3D technology became possible to code a realistic WWI/WWII Naval simulation, and I'm not joking or fooling anyone, see below:

lol, I knew I should of checked this forums earlier. awesome joke.

you know, this sounds cool, but how hard is it to just take the characters and display them more sharply than the stuff behind them?

I'm pretty sure that's what they did in sengoku rance during some of the cgs. all you have to do is isolate the part without the character and blur it.

anyway, I really doubt that those 3d features are going to catch on, simply cause of all the doctor complaints about eye damage.

I only read a (very) small bit of the article, but from what I gathered, it relies on stereoscopic images rather than no-glasses-required 3D. Stereoscopic images (at least, in this case) combine two of the same image to create what is essentially an optical illusion of 3D. And, it has been possible for a long, long time.

My new game is black-and-white anyway, so anaglyphic glasses would be a great fit.
