Beta demo

#1 Post by Voight-Kampff » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:12 pm

Everything has just about coalesced into a fully functional game. At least, enough for a beta. The plan is to post it for critique on the Feedback forum in a couple of weeks. If anyone is interested in going through a pre-beta version so we can get some last-minute feedback, let me know, and I'll post some links.

Fair warning: it still has a lot of missing resources. And it's long. I really have no idea just how long, other than Lint's word count of over 100,000. I'd make a rough estimate of maybe 8-10 hours?

Do you plan to update the copyright date and menus before the beta?

Most likely. Tho, the menus (and title screen) falls under @berration's jurisdiction. He made mention of doing his damnedest to make the menus look as "un-Ren'Py" as possible. But last time he tried, the customized menu system just crashed the game. Strangely, only after it was compiled.

Well, whatever the case, there's still a lot of work left. But we want to get as much feedback as possible before we go hog-wild on cranking out final resources, only to find that readers want huge swaths of the story chopped out, thus negating the need for said resources.

Yes, yes... Add it to the pile, along with the sprites, additional backgrounds and event images. Whew!

But yes, I didn't have a whole lot of luck with my experiments with imagemaps. At some point I'm going to have to sit down and spend some time trying to figure out how screens work, and see if I might have better luck with that. Hopefully...maybe...

Dammit, Jim, I'm an artist, not a programmer! <quickly hides his old, dusty CS degree...>

Whoops!

Just found a show-stopper in the pre-beta.

Mid-way through Salima's branch, you will get routed to a dead end no matter what you do.

Well, it'll be about a half day before I can get a chance to upload a corrected version. Sorry about that.

Might be a good excuse to update it to a newer version of RenPy. ;)
