Artist and Designer for Hire {Closed}

#1 Post by Auro-Cyanide » Tue May 10, 2011 3:24 am

I am closed now because I got an actual job :D

Hello people of the Visual Novel community :)

I am officially opening for commissions, as some of you already know. I offer a range of commissions and I will detail specifics below. This post is mostly to address commissions for the use of visual novels, but if you have something else in mind, then I am more than willing to see what I can do.

If you have any questions at all you can post in this topic, PM me, send a note to my Deviantart account or send me an email. I am a friendly person, so feel free. I'm not going to hunt you down if you ask a question and then don't commissions me ^^' (I hear some people are worried about that).

WHAT I OFFER
I offer a range of art for visual novels, including sprites, CGs and backgrounds. I am also a fully university trained graphic designer, so I also offer logos and if anyone is ever interested in printing or designing other aspects of their games, then I can also do that. As far as style is concerned, I am very flexible. If provided with reference of the style you require, I can create art that emulates that particular style. A horror game should have horror art right? For a good guide on what I am capable of in terms of styles and technique, please check My Deviantart Account.

WHAT I WILL AND WILL NOT DRAW
Generally speaking, I am fine drawing most things. This includes but is not restricted to yoai, yuri, shonen-ai, shojo-ai, gore and nudity.
I will NOT draw sex/porn/hentai. However if there is one or so very tasteful sex scenes, I am okay with that.

As for my personal preference, I will always be attracted to a good otome. However, I have found that I get into most stories regardless of what they are. I really enjoy being apart of the creative story telling process and so I adopt characters and stories pretty easily.

IF YOU COMMISSION ME
If you decide to commission me, get in contact and we can discuss what it is you want. Please be as descriptive as possible so that I can do my best to create what you envision. References are always a great way to describe what you want. Please keep in mind what I am capable of. I will always do my best to create what you want, but I am still growing as an artist and I am thus somewhat restricted. In most cases I will provide sketches of your commission. This is the best time to ask for major changes or give direction. I will only be able to make minor adjustments when I start inking and colouring. I can provide updates on all the stages for feedback if you wish and will keep you as informed as possible on the progress of your commission.

PRICES
Please note that these prices are just general guidelines. Prices will be affected by style, complexity and deadlines. I am also willing to work out set deals for larger amounts. Feel free to make enquires and I will try my best to give you a close quote :) Prices are in American Dollars (until the exchange hits 1.20 in which case I will have to switch to Australian ^^). For conversions, please check a site such as this one: http://www.xe.com/ucc/

Sprites
Single Sprite: $35+ dependent on style and complexity. If a visual reference is not available, I can do character designs for $10+ so I can confer with you about what you want the character to look like. If you waive this charge, I will do my best with the description, but I will not make major changes to the characters design after I have done it.
A single sprite is one pose, one outfit and a range of emotions (~6 eyes, 4 eyebrows, 4 mouths)
Extra Emotions: $1+ dependent on what range you want.
Extra Outfits: $5-$10 dependant on complexity. Please tell me before hand if you want to be able to change outfits/hairstyles as I will have to make a sprite base first.
Extra Poses: $20+ price dependent on complexity and original sprite cost. Emotions, Outfits and Hairstyles already paid for are inclusive.

Style examples:

Style example 1
Innes emotion set test.jpg
Style example 2
Range example:

CGs and other full artwork
CGs: $50+ dependant on style, complexity, background and number of characters.

CG examples: I have done CGs for 'Don't take it personally, babe' and 'Anton's Vacation'. Since these are spoilers by nature, please see My Portfolio for them.

Backgrounds
I am still relative new to backgrounds, so I am currently only offering matte paintings (mixture of digital painting and photographs). As such, if you have a photo you can use, I can paint it and make certain changes fairly cheaply. I can also use multiple photos. If you do not have access to a photo you can use, then I can still do most backgrounds, but it may be a bit more expensive as it is more time consuming.
Backgrounds: $40+

Multiple photo matte painting example:
School Road demo.jpg

Logos
Most of the logos in my portfolio are raster due to them being requests and rasters being faster to produce and generally restricted to online use. I am able to produce vector logos as well. If you, however, want a raster logo because you want a certain texture or effect (see e-dream logo), then I can produce it at a scale that should print reasonably to a certain scale. It will not have the infinite scalability of a vector logo though. This is mostly a printing issue mostly, but it is good to be aware.
Non-Commercial 1: $20-$50 one concept with some refinement. This is good for people who do not really know what they want and are flexible with what they recieve.
Non-Commercial 2: $50-$80 three concepts and some refinement. Greater variation of choice.
Commercial: $120+ dependent on scale and project price. Relative to design concepts and revisions.

Example:

Miscellaneous
For miscellaneous artwork such as chibis, icons and painted items, please get in contact for a quote.

RIGHTS
I will retain the rights of the images. However, dependent on what is priorly agreed, I can extend you the rights to use my work for profit on whatever your project may be. I will agree to not sell any work you commission to any other party. I will retain the right to post work I create in my portfolio and on certain website. However, I understand for some people you will want to keep certain things secret until release or other dates. I am flexible with this so please feel free to discuss. Some items may have to be restricted for ever, such as CGs, in which case I will only post them in my portfolio at an agreed upon date.

PAYMENT
I only accept paypal. After I agree to a commission, I will give you my paypal address. I require at least half of the payment upfront. The other half can be paid on completion. For large multiple orders, I am willing to accept instalments instead of upfront payments. If I am unable to complete a project for whatever reason, I will refund the full payment.

And that is all folks. Feel free to contact me at any point in time :) Thank you for checking out my work!

Sheesh, man, I think you broke a few rules with the multi-posting.

Anyway, I have a question regarding the commisioning you are doing, Auro-Cyanide. Do you do fan drawings? If not, I won't bother you with doing the art for me, but I was curious for a non-commercial game idea of mine called Fate/Naku no Mayonaka. For more info, please look at my topic in this forum, okay?

Sorry, but I was using the Quick Reply option, so I couldn't post a link unless I had the ability to (meaning me going to get the thread link in question and then putting it here).

I'll go fix this post later with the link as soon as I can.

Edit: Here's the link:

Woah... Okay. Thanks Xamusel and Lotus :) I'm okay with it. I'm gathering NewMember is well, new. They sent me an email with a photo attachment, so I thought they were talking about that for a sprite.

NewMember, I'm not exactly sure what you are after? I'm not sure if I could so much with the images you provided ^^'

@Xamusel
I knew which one you were talking about (I keep an eye on things >_>) As for your question, I am actually not sure, I haven't considered my position on this. On one hand I would feel bad about making money of someone else's characters. On the other hand, I definitely wouldn't be the only person making money of established fandoms, what with all the fanart and fancomics. Sorry for such a vague answer^^', honestly I'm not sure yet. I might have to ask the others on the forum. I don't know if there is a precedent or anything like that.

Okay, I see. I don't want to force you to make a precedent, either.

Still, I need the artwork, but I don't want to force you to take money if that isn't right to do so (precedent-wise, anyway, to clarify). Is it alright, if that turns out to be wrong to take money, for you to do that for free on your own time away from commissions? That's one thing I'll bargain on with you.

Let me know what you think about it via PM... I don't want to clutter this topic.

There were a lot of off-topic posts here - and posts responding to those posts. To keep the thread focused, I removed them.

Just extending some of the examples of work that I have done recently.

Logo for Elze for her absolutely gorgeous animation project:

And an itty bitty peak at some concept work I am doing for Komi-Tsuku, which is turning out to be really fun to work on:

I've been sort of pacing back and forth since you first posted this topic because I have a little side project that I think your art style would be great for (I love your art style, by the way, but I think I've said this before), but I wanted to see if I could even squeeze in time while I'm working on a project that's as much of a behemoth as Machina Jewel. After finishing most of the technical stuff behind that project, I think I *can* handle working on my side project while I wait for my artist friend to catch up, so I decided to speak up.

UM so what I'm trying to ask is, are you still open for commissions? If so, I'd be interested in commissioning you for my side project. Basic details: it's a BxB game with 5 main characters that would all need sprites. I'd also want you to do a few CGs (probably only 3 or 4), but nothing explicit. I think the farthest I'd go is a kiss. ^^; (I hate writing sex scenes, honestly, so I'd never be able to write a VN with anything extremely graphic, probably) Since this is a very personal sort of vanity project for me, I'll probably just use free BGs unless my perfectionism starts kicking into overdrive, so basically I just need you for sprite/CG work if you're available. ;_;

I am closing for commissions now because I got a job (an actual graphic design one so I am over the moon XD). I can now go back to do stuff for fun when I have time. I am still working on commissions now as well as arranging to work with Camille in the future. I may also do some free logos soon as well once I settle in. I am very happy that I got to work with different people and especially excited for my new job. Yay me!
