This project arose from an English assignment that has something to do with tying an actual experience into some sort of research. What better topic to discuss than independent game design and visual novels?! Unfortunately, it's never quite that simple: in addition to a five to seven page essay, my lovely professor also decided to require a visual component. And, considering the subject matter, there's really only one logical conclusion.
Considering the time restraints, there won't be enough time to actually complete a game. However, if I can manage a few concepts of the more important characters and perhaps of demo-length version of the completed product utilizing some free resources, I think my teacher will be happy enough.
Now, I think I've rambled on quite enough. Here's what the project's actually about:
Summary
Beast (working title) takes place in a small, superstitious town no one's ever heard of. Population: 1,147 and shrinking. The town's prevailing myth involves a scientist who managed to genetically engineer a new species of some sort, which has been wreaking havoc ever since--and there're plenty of bodies to back it up. The story centers around a boy named Jayce who discovers a body in the long abandoned and steadfastly avoided home where the experiments took place. Something about the body has Jayce beginning to question the validity of the myth, but with so much evidence to the contrary, who will believe him? Can he manage to discover the truth behind these murders when it seems the entire town is working against him, or will he just end up being the beast's next victim?
Recruitment
Concept Artist - As mentioned above, I'm looking for a few concepts of the more important characters. Something along the lines of a colored full-body sketch, and a few headshot sketches depicting different expressions would more than suffice.
Background Artist - There is one scene in particular that is important enough to require a background made specifically for it.
Programmer - I can do the grunt of the work, but I may need a bit of assistance with the aforementioned scene. I don't want to give too much away here, but if you're very familiar with Ren'py's programming language and think you may be interested in helping out with this project, let me know and I'd be happy to provide you with more information!
NOTE: I do actually plan on seeing this project through to completion, but my school assignment comes first! If anyone is interested in coming on board for the full project (as a sprite artist/event artist/colorist/composer/etc.), please let me know!

Re: Beast: Suspense in Need of Background Artist
Just a bit of an update to say that I do believe I've managed to locate a concept artist!
However, the background artist position is still WIDE open.
